In Flash Gordon, the genius Hans Zarkov somehow builds a spacecraft that hums electronically and slowly lifts off the ground. In the old black and white movie this is accomplished by piano wire and sparklers. I thought perhaps Hans has cannibalized the alien scout ships he has shot down and combined their modis operandi with earth's Tesla-like electrodynamic power to amplify it. It would turn gravity against itself into a controlled "fall" into the sky of whatever world it was on. Hey, we can dream. This is a rough thumbnail of what the engine room might feel like.
