Description
Welcome to June's CD update. A total of 31 CDs this month making this the second month of 2019 to go over 30 CDs total. Most of these were gems I found over at the local record store in the town nearest to me on two separate occasions. Eight of these titles were picked up on the first week of June (the iconic Beatles disc "Abbey Road" is a noteworthy pick up along with Karnivool's "Sound Awake" disc and a six-pack of budget price discs like No Doubt's smash album from 1994 and Sting's "Brand New Day", a mainstay at every record store that I'm actually OK with), and a whopping 14 of them were among the birthday pickups. The titles picked up during my birthday at this record store are listed with an asterisk next to them so you can discern the difference. Among the noteworthy pickups are a surprise find of the Underoath album "They're Only Chasing Safety" which I had been trying to find for years, Van Halen's third album which I'd also beem trying to get, and titles from Pearl Jam, REM, Rush, and even Phil Collins for good measure. Also noteworthy is that Filter single for "Take A Picture" you're currently looking at as well as that "Mortal Kombat" compilation.Fun fact- there is a song from Sevendust featured on the Mortal Kombat disc before they settled on the name Sevendust and were still going by the name Crawlspace. If you don't know, that is one of several names they went by before becoming who they are today. After the release of this compilation by TVT in 1996, a similarly titled band sued them for $2,500 in order to get the rights to the name. Before the whole Crawlspace ordeal, Sevendust were going by "Rumblefish" which was changed for similar reasons, and that name would later be used for the title of a track on their sophomore release, 1999's "Home". Before that they were going by "Snake Nation" during their formation in 1994. So, there's a lot of history behind Sevendust's band name and this soundtrack is very interesting for that reason. I mean, the band was signed to TVT when they were going by Crawlspace and were so confident in their band name at the time that they decided to make a soundtrack appearance with that name! That's something.
Aside from those record shop pickups, nine albums were picked up elsewhere. Noteworthy additions include two hits compilations from Van Halen and The Eagles, respectively, and a surprise Wal-Mart exclusive hits package from Seether. I didn't even know Seether came out with another hits collection making this the second time they have done that this decade, the other released by Wind-Up in 2013 and this one released by a different label. Only ten tracks made the cut while the previous one had many more plus a rarity-filled bonus disc. Priced at $9.97 for now, I can see this one becoming a $5.00 budget title in the future so of you're new to Seether, definitely pick it up. Other than that, I picked up an Avenged Sevenfold disc I didn't have at Best Buy. If you don't know, there is still the treasure bin of CDs which have various $5.99 priced albums, and this album "Waking The Fallen" was one of them. Other than that, there are two Barnes And Noble pickups in the form of Duran Duran's "Notorious" and Rush's "Vapor Trails", a 2002 release.
