Description The C-130s entered service as the secondary cargo transport for the Air Force and primary cargo transport for the Air National Guard in 1958 and 1965 respectively with the C-130A variant. Over the years, the Air Force and Air National Guard have operated the C-130A/B/E/H/J variants, with the most recent being the CC-130J which is the stretched version of the C-130J model. It was retired from widespread use in the cargo variant for the Air Force in favor of operating C-27Js for smaller tactical operations and C-17As for more strategic operations. The Air National Guard still maintains a small fleet of the cargo variant for tactical operations.

There is a total of 4 currently in service with the Air Force, all four of which are in use by the Special Operations Command. Additionally, there is 16 in service with the Air National Guard
