📖 History:
▪
😛 Personality: Kayla is basically a happy-go-lucky girl who takes everything with a grain of salt. She's an outgoing, charismatic and energetic individual who loves nothing more than simply having fun and taking life by one moment each day. She can however, become a bit immature every now and then, especially when she's around Randy.
▪ Although she's mostly in a good mood, Kayla can get spunky and sassy at times, particularly during the morning. She shows this trait a lot when fighting crime, taunting enemies and making wisecracks when she has the upper hand. Another thing about crime-fighting is how fiercely independent Kayla chooses to be. Randy may be her unofficial sidekick, but she hardly ever asks for his help, and even advises police to sit back and let her finish the job if they arrive on the scene.
▪ Negatively, Kayla can become aloof when things don't go her way. If confronted about something that's bothering her, Kayla will refuse to express her true emotions, even though it's clearly written on her face. Her sassy side can also cause her to be very uncompromising, and won't even give people the time of day if they disagree with her. Despite this, Kayla mostly maintains a positive attitude and likes helping people fight for the right cause. She's also a pretty good listener... whenever she lets other characters have a chance to talk, that is.
♠️ Hobbies & Habits: Kayla's main hobby is reading comic books, particularly ones that feature superheroes in their everyday lives. As far as habits go, her number one favorite thing to do is go to Chik-Fil-A (honestly, it borders on being an addiction). For example, there was one day when Kayla was unconscious after a battle, and Randy was trying numerous efforts to wake her to no avail. She finally spang up when he mentioned that Chik-Fil-A was closing in 20 minutes, and she urged him to hurry and try to make it there.
🏠 Residing Area:
⚠️ Greatest Fear/Phobia: Because of Kayla's lack of control over her powers, her biggest fear is that her abilities will fail her and may end up injuring herself or worse on accident.
▪ This fear first manifested when Kayla was in a skirmish with a group of thugs on the third floor on an apartment. She was knocked out the window and suffered a lot of broken bones after landing on her side. During the fight, her powers were active all the way up until the fall, when she needed them the most. Although accidents like these have occurred beforehand, this was the most impactful incident.
▪ As a result, Kayla has developed Post Traumatic Stress about fighting crime at high elevations, and always makes it her aim to stay near ground level when confronting criminals. Despite this, she still takes time out of her day to practice honing her skills, and figuring out how her powers really work. Kayla has been slowly gaining her confidence back with each session, and will now bring Randy along as the unofficial sidekick.
Powers/Abilities:
🔷️ Galvanist - Kayla can use electropathic energy, the color of green in one of three stages:
🔸️ Livewire is a stage that allows Kayla to move at superhuman levels. Her body surges with lightning, which causes her to travel very quickly around the city. On top of that, this stage also grants Kayla the ability to navigate via telephone poles and electrical wires.
🔸️ Magnetism is another stage Kayla can use her moves in. While it's not impactful enough to move vehicles or cranes, she can still throw smaller objects and poles with ease. In addition, Kayla can allow herself or other people to stick to magnetic surfaces if they're charged with enough static.
🔸️ Frequency gives Kayla the power to use soundwaves to her advantage. While this doesn't particularly mean that she can make screeching noises with it, Frequency instead allows her to intercept transmissions of phone calls, radios and even wifi access points. This is the only stage that doesn't give Kayla any utility in terms of combat, but provides the best way for her to collect intel or snoop around restricted areas.
🔷️ Rodney - The name of Kayla's weapon that she carries. It's a metal pole that acts as a primary extension of her skills. Besides being good for hitting criminals with it, Rodney also gains a power depending on which stage Kayla is in.
🔸️ If she's in the Livewire stage, Rodney acts as a quick spot for her to teleport to. Kayla throws the weapon in the intended direction and will zip straight towards it, bypassing objects and enemies in the process. She can also leave Rodney virtually anywhere in an area and zip back to him, as long as she has a clear line of sight to the weapon.
🔸️ If Kayla is in the Magnetism stage, Rodney becomes an object of levitation that can fly around and hit criminals without Kayla maintaining contact. In addition, Kayla can alter the weight of Rodney and make him extremely heavy for others who attempt to grab hold of the weapon, or use it to keep an enemy in place if they try to escape.
🔸️ In the Frequency stage, Rodney becomes an electronic disruptor, that jamms electromagnetic signals in a small radius. Lights, phones, radios and anything else that requires electrical power will temporarily become faulty and malfunction. Kayla is the only person unaffected by Rodney's jamming, so she is still free to use her powers at will.
Weaknesses:
❌ Self-Control - While it's unclear if Kayla can really keep her powers in check, she can sometimes show when she doesn't have an idea of what's going on. In one instance, she magnetized paperclips to her hand, but could not get them off. On another occasion, she even gave Randy quite a jolt after simply high-fiving him.
▪ Perhaps the biggest indication of Kayla's lack of control over her abilities is the fact that she cannot choose which stage her Galvanist powers will take. If she's in a situation where she'll need Magnetism the most, Kayla might be stuck in another stage, completely unable to switch to a more conventional ability. As a way to compensate, Kayla is forced to make the best out of what stage she's in according to the predicament.
Cleverness:
⚖ If Kayla is unsure of which stage she's in, each one gives her a visual or audio cue as an indication.
▪ Livewire is the easiest, for all Kayla has to do is look at herself to see tiny bolts of lightning coursing through her body.
▪ Magnetism enhances her eyesight to see metal easier. However, if there's no metal around, this can be ineffective.
▪ Frequency is the only stage that gives her a audio cue instad of a visual one. In this stage, the sounds that Kayla normally hears are blurred out, but phone and radio conversations can be picked up clearer and from further distances away.
⚖ Perhaps when she gets skillful enough with her powers, Kayla can control which stage she wishes to use at the time. Who knows, maybe when she gets even more advanced, she'll have the potiental to tap into two stages at once!
Trivia:
✴ Vert (Kayla's last name), is a play on the Spanish word verde, which means "green". It was inspired by her color scheme.
✴ Kayla prefers to be paid in Chik-Fil-A gift cards.
✴ Randy and Kayla have been in a relationship before, but decided that it was too awkward between the both of them, so they went back to being friends.
