Description
Well, after a few days past from an end of work on this picture I can finally think a bit about what I draw. And if I love surrealism, I need to describe some notes after all.At first, my inspiration for this picture. I was inspired by style of H.R.Giger. I cannot say if someone can see this, but Giger's art were an initial impulse. Not a source, source of all my images is me inner chaos. Something inside all of us, some thing that producing our dreams. So, I wouldn't analize "part-of-a-boat-part-of-a-crew"-girls, them just a kinda tribute to Giger. And so you can say about pipes in pyramides and ground. Ah yes, pyramides. As I know, pyramides with a gates not exactly ancient egyptiant's. But I draw these gates for two reasons. Composition, kinda third pyramide. Imagination shows me some objects that level by level become higher and higher from sides to center. Second reason, I guess, was a movie. I don't know how that movie called, it was something I accidently saw on tv many-many years ago. I saw only part of it, but some images fallen down into abyss of my subconciousness. That aliens looking as an egyptian gods, that pyramides with a gates, of course. So, I draw gates and added some pipes and ventilation for an industrial fleur.
And now I must to talk about central figure of a picture. At first, why Ra? It's a bit complicated, something about how my brain works. I must to begin a story from afar. I cannot say now why I saw/felt this, but in one absolutely casual morning a couple months ago an interesting idea was appeared in me head. I thought in this morning "How about a picture where some parts would reffer to a Giger, Salvador Dali and Bosch?" And some things I saw in a car window at that morning also was transformed by imagination into a colourfull images that can surround but also linkes a parts of a one big painting. I don't know if I will complete this or not. I don't have a skills to bring in our mortal world those pictures from some sort of a Lovecraftian dimmension of a beautifull dreams and terrible horrors. I have only pictures appearing in my head. And like the gentleman from Providence, I cannot describe them properly, I can only... give a hint?
So, what about Ra? I guess, it's not a secret to you now, that this picture i nitially was mentioned as a part of something bigger, maybe kind of a triptych. In other day I thought about its name. I thought it must be something reffering to a psychodelic rock because of a connection between picture and music on some level. "Maybe... shocking blue?" I liked it for a second but in a next one... "No! Not blue! Picture too colourfull to be a blue, this is would be a Shocking Rainbow!" RA-inbow. Yes. Next thought of mine was how about make Ra a central figure of an one of parts of a picture. And I heard about how young Hans Giger was impressed by an ancient egyptian art. Wonderfull. Pieces of pazzle were matched. And I begun to loocking at some pictures, make a couple of scetches, misty image slowly started to be a less misty and more clear.
Of course, being a Giger-inspired, that picture cannot hold an egyptian Ra. This picture must be twisted, perverted. I don't exactly know why there is an eagle's beak instead falcon's. Maybe, there is some connection between sun and eagle in my head. Mainly because of a Warhammer with their Imperium of Humanity which started from a solar system, and a song Emperor of the Sun by Triarii. But I think there is another bigger reason. I want to make a main figure more formidable, more intimidating. So, bright egyptian falcon-Ra was twisted in a grim eagle-Ra with a meanacing metal beak. And yeah, that sun disk with a snake above Ra's head was twisted into a sun with some xenomorphic snake as another tribute to a Giger. And so was a rod in Ra's hand. At first I wanted to make it not just a rod but also an oar and that's why Ra hold it in both hands but not in one as he do it on original images. But as you can see I just make it a twisted rod. I don't know, maybe it would be better to make it an oar as I wanted at the beginnig. But anyway, if both hands are holding a rod, Ra cannot hold an ankh in one a hands at a same time. But he don't need it any more, ankh nailed to his body now by his own ribs. That part of an image was so match to a concept that it appeared on a first scetch in a moment without any thought. My hand almost draw it on it's own will. To be honest, at the end of work on a picture, I caught myself on a thinking that main figure strangely reminds about Jesus. I don't mentioned any allusions on him, but somehow I think about it. Maybe this is because of that ankh? Yes, in fact there an akh is a nailed to body of Ra. But also Ra is a nailed to his ahkh. Not crusified but anyway. Oh and maybe that nimbus in a form of cogweel in his head. And these hands on his belt. Hands don't have allusion on Jesus, but them reminds about monotheism, and when you heard "monotheism", you think about christianity, judaism or islam. If you don't know, there is a theory about ancient egyptians monotheism. And there is a symbol in ancient egyptians iconography. Sun disk with a hands. According to this theory, in that symbol sun represents the sole God and hands are his manifestations in material world, avatars which known as an egyptian gods. In my opinion that theory not right on a 100 percent, but I know about it anyway and my world would never be the same. By the word, unfortunately I finished my picture a bit late. It was a December, 24. It would be rally awesome to finish and post it on a night of December, 22/23. Winter solstice. The longest night of a year. The night when the Sun God descented into a deepest deeps of the Underworld. And there is picture of a twisted, underworld form of a Sun God. Oh, look at his arms. This is a small allusion on a Baphometh. And also on his tatoo's. "Solve. Coagula." One of the principles of alchemy. And what they said? Roots of a western occultism and alchemy lied in an Ancient Egypt. This is not completely correct, but this opinion is a part of a culture and tradition. Alister Crowley, free masons. They insisted that their knowledge come from papyrus scrolls of an egyptian priests or from greeks and latins who also knew what they knew from papyruses.
At this point, confused stream of description is come to its end. God steped his feet on his boat and leaves the Underworld. After a great night the sun will rise again.
P.S. Oh, nice name for a picture I guess. Alien sun rises. I think, I rename it.
