I apologize, but I'm going to have to disagree with you. We can indeed answer it- take a look at the raped thirteen year old that, her whole life long, will be forever haunted and ruined and confused. Or look to the mother of the boy who was thoughtlessly murdered in a drive-by shooting.

Why on this earth should the "offenders" have more rights than their ruined victims?

this is possibly the one of the honest, most politicallly corect and powerful things i have seen so far on DevArt... i disagree with what SOME of False-Redeemer and cin-vhetin have said.when you kill someone you dont become something differnt(unless you call them murderers obviously), they are still people, they still have a beating heart and a hunk of organs. it doesnt change them. to the amazing DevArt, I have no idea how to answer that question. why do people kill people who kill people just to show that killing is wrong??? its just the way this world works. people kill people who have killed people i think because if you take away someones life the only sort of consolation or punishment is to do the same to them. this isnt exactly the right thing to do because you are just doing the exact thing that you are saying you shouldnt do. this is just the way it works- i am not saying it is right, but its just how it works.

Equal punishment is what i believe in, castrate the rapist and take what the thief owns. Those who take lives with intention to kill should have there's taken from them, through imprisonment or death row. Why should we treat our prisoners better than the victims?

Indeed. That's what I wonder. Very well worded, my friend.

wow. this is a rather controversial question. i can see that a lot of people have already expressed something generally close to how i feel; the death penalty is not a punishment, but protection. besides, what rights does an individual have when they have ripped away the rights of others?? both my parents work for corrections Canada. how would you feel, knowing that a homicidal rapist with a 97% chance of re-offending was recently released in your city? those people sent to the electric chair had their chance and they have shown to the community, the court, the judge, and the country that they do not desire to change and they are a danger to all those around them.

Killing people is a neutral action. Bacteria kill people and aren't evil. Who gets killed is more relevant. Killing civilians: bad. Killing someone who poses a contenuing threat to the general well being of a comunity: good.
People already know that random or malicius murder is wrong, but if an assassin were to have shot, say, Hanibal Lector for the sake of removing a threat, would that be wrong?

Wars or military action in general can show a stance that genocide is wrong. That somebody dies isn't a concern if you're being logical, who dies on the other hand is quite relevant.

This is why I'm always telling people. "who are you to judge?"
They always try to justify but it's not justice; it's not. it's just something people do so they feel better about the world and who THEY are.
We are not the ones to condemn someone to their death. So where DO we find our justice or even justify justice?

Life is full of contradictions. A paradoxical, ironical, tragic, and prankish situation human existence shows itself to be. Why kill killers? Because they are killers. I'm not an absolutist about killing or anything else, however, why waste time and money continuing the lives of those who have taken lives? The death penalty is no deterrent, nor does it have to be. It is at least some form of justice. The characters on death row are only sorry they got caught. They never find Jesus until the cops find them first. And at least after years of free housing and meals paid for by we taxpayers they'll enjoy the luxury of knowing how and when they will die. A foreknowledge their victims did not receive.

because that is what humans do. we fight for the sake of fighting. i believe that people will never get together and stop fighting. people fight because its what we've always done. its human nature. no matter what we do, we cant change our instinct. we can take away the weapons, and people with kill with their bare hands. the only logic way to stop a fight is to eliminate the oponent. we all see just how well that works, dont we? even though it is moraly wrong, it will go on forever. i believe that war is just a game to polititions. more money, more oil, more land, more power. thats all they care about. and itll go on as long as there are two or more people alive...

nice artwork btw...^_^

because sometimes violence is the only thing people understand. sometimes you have to stop a person that harms other people before they do so again. it's not a good feeling, and it's evil. but sometimes it's a nessesary evil. any other questions? (no sarcasm)

hmm, good point. but if you were to put every criminal in jail, the jail system would be full after a fiew years. also, if the criminals knew that they would eventualy be freed, they would nit be afraid to kill over and over again. thats how i see it...

Wings-of-Xin In reply to the-funny-kid [2009-03-13 00:55:34 +0000 UTC]

Good point to as well ^-^

Except, I think that people die in jail, so there will always be enough room.

And they wouldn't be let free, the system would end up doing something else to prevent that, I think...

the-funny-kid In reply to Wings-of-Xin [2009-03-13 14:40:46 +0000 UTC]

well yes people die, but not like, every day. and what could they change in the system to make sure that people wouldnt do stuff again. the only thing i could see is:

first time one year jail sentance
second time castration

that would definatly work for guys...
