Kyell Gold's books are especially good. By using different species of antros it allows for a unique twist.

Depends on which one you read. The ones marked adult romance, yes they are sex in those. Waterways is a story of a young otter coming to grips with his sexuality, future college life, being kicked out of his home, and his first gay relationship.

Well technically it isn't animals reproducing if it's gay.
Yes, a good deal of furry literature has a basis in sex but it's unfair to classify it all smut. Kyell Gold's stories are generally about romance, self-discovery and espionage.
The White Crusade by Ben Goodridge has no sex in it at all and is still a widely read book in the fandom.

Simply: liking anthropomorphic animals. Weather you like yiff and perversions that go with it is really up to the person. There are a lot of stereotypes about furries, I'm not saying they're all false but most of them don't really apply to the fandom but rather individuals. For example, not all furries are into yiff, some even find it disgusting. A lot of them simply like art or literature with animals in it regardless of weather it's porn or general art and complain that porn obsessed freaks are giving them a bad name. Kinda like anime fandom, you don't have to obsess over hentai to be an anime fan. Also, most furries aren't convinced they're animals nor do they practice bestiality. "Fursonas" are usually only for fun, simply as drawing yourself in a cartoony manner doesn't mean you think you're a cartoon character.
What most people don't understand is that you can be a furry and never look at yiff or put a fursuit on.

I've seen plenty of nasty and disgusting things in the fandom but really, a furry doesn't have to do any of those things to a furry. It's mostly up to individuals and their preferences, the one and only thing you need to like to be a furry is anthropomorphic animals. And that's it. It's sad how many people misunderstand such a simple thing.
