I really like it, but imho, the black 'splatter effect' ruins the vector feel. Oh, and I'm curious as to how you did those beautiful calligraphic lines. I love them. Was it just the bezier tool... or some calligraphic pen... did u use a Wacom? What program?

Thanks, all curvy lines were made with the pen tool in illustrator. Mouse. I wish I had a Wacom.

Great work! i love the chaotic feeling. The arrows are a nice added touch too. They make the whole vector looks like it's moving... or something. Nice choice of colours too.

Great composition, I love it. I agree with edit-dsn on the 3d circle, but i say just get rid of it as it forces you to keep your eye of the main focal point. anyhow either way awesome work.

great colour scheme again, love the orange tones. the twisting arrows give it a lot of movement and direction but also conveys confusion to me. the red circle are a great touch. i'd like to see more time put into the 3d of the sphere though, it looks a bit flat compared to the arrows. great piece man, a +fav i think

ScytheDesigner In reply to mason84 [2004-10-21 21:53:51 +0000 UTC]

Thanks for the +fav. I can honestly say I am still learning illustrator as well. One thing that I recently discovered, something you may already know by now, is that drawing out your vector ideas first on paper and then working on it in Illustrator is a lot easier than starting from scratch in Illustrator. Atleast that is what I am going to start doing now. As for more technical tips...well ask me and if I can help I will.

mason84 In reply to ScytheDesigner [2004-10-21 22:28:37 +0000 UTC]

Hi, thanks for the tip, ive also just found that out, today in fact, ive just been digging out all my old sketch pads when i go into illustrator and try and come up with something its impossible! but like you say, just do a few sketches and then youve got something to go by... on your 'whatsdapoint' with those black lines and those arrows, did you draw them out with the pen tool or is there a brush for it..?i think it looks shit hot! ive been racking my brain trying all sorts to try and get the same type of look likewise if you need any tips ask away, i doubt that i could answer it but ya never know, lol

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ScytheDesigner In reply to mason84 [2004-10-21 22:44:44 +0000 UTC]

Arrows and black lines are done a la pen tool. For the 3D look, on the arrows, I find that copying the layer and shifting it below or above is a lot easier than drawing the outline of the arrwow and shifting it. Sometimes you do have to outline because copy, paste, shift, doesn't look exactly right. I'll let you know if I have any questions. Look forward to seeing your next deviation.

CaiX [2004-10-19 18:04:16 +0000 UTC]

Very nice

If I had to pick two parts that I liked the most, I would pick the arrow that is coming out of the picture, the one 'closest' to me. I like this because i think it adds a lot of depth to the picture.

And also the black line that 'whips' out to the north east and bends twice. I like this because it doubles the dynamicality (its probably a word) of the image - it looks just like it is 'whipping' out.

I like the title also

cool fucking piece, I like the way you use cliche forms and shapes, yet compose them in a unique dynamic matter. Excellent use of depth along with the shades of orange.
