I just watched episode 7 of Yamato 2199 and I discovered this scene between Kodai and Akira "Rei" Yamamoto, a Marsnoid: Human Colonists that were born on Mars. Mars participated in the Second Inner Planetary War and lost it, Akiras' family was forced to relocate to Earth afterwards, where Akiras parents were killed by Meteor Bomb Strikes. Her elder brother Akio Yamamoto later perished in a space dogfight against Gamilas Forces sometime before the start of the series, causing her to have strong animosity towards Gamilans.

Gee, who do we know that has red eyes and a similar backstory like that??? [link] OH YES! I remember now, "Scar" from Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood! I get it now: the Marsnoids are basically Ishvalans that have gained spaceflight technology and have colonized Mars after the War in Ishval, it all makes sense now!! And in case you don't get it, I am using Sarchasm in my speech there!!
