A creature design commission for a private client, started from a random thought and turned into this! It was super fun to work on something different for a change.

Here's the description this design is inspired by (freely translated):

The guinea bat is a creature of warm climates. They live mainly in rainforest canopies and in lower mountainside caves in which the guinea bats form colonies, each living in their own territory. The colonies are led by the strongest individual, that can be either male or female. When the colony grows too large it splits into two and the other half leaves to find a new territory. Unlike bats, guinea bats cannot hear ultrasound. Instead they have an extremely precise nightvision, reaching even the infrared frequency, and are able to spot even the slightest shifts in temperature and are able to see in total darkness. Their hearing is also very precise even if they don't hear ultrasounds. Guinea bats are agile flyers which makes them difficult to catch for nocturnal birds of prey, gloom-lizards and shadow squirrels. Due to their nightvision guinea bats are more or less blind in daylight so they move only at night and retreat into tree hollows and caves for the day.
