Description
While I was working on building assets for an animation project, I found myself drawing a lot of hands. Even with a static camera angle, hands are dynamic, and require much, much more than the standard 8 drawings for the turn-a-round. So, in addition to the standard 8 angles, I drew two variants (one tilted up, and one tilted down), and one extra for the front angle (bottom), for a total of 25 drawings.I've arranged these drawings into a handy (haha, pun!) chart as a visual aid to determine the which drawings each hand should reasonably transition into. I originally made this chart for my personal use, but then, I thought that maybe others can use it as a guide to help them on drawing hands for their art projects.
This hand shape is a neutral hand position. It's the natural shape the hand takes when it's not being used. It can also be used as a transitional shape between the full open and full closed (fist) shapes.
Feel free to use this as a reference for your projects. Hell, trace it if you want (I learned tracing DOES help beginners get better). Just remember to credit me in your comments and link back to either this deviation or my account page.
