EDIT: The naga bit is referring to one particular artist here on DA who is talented, but has a rather... uh, interesting style. And she's obsessed to the point of Uber!Creepy about her crazy pretty boything naga people. I won't mention any names, because I don't mean to offend her or her fans, it's just... well, with the 3+million pageviews, obviously pretty snake-type things make you popular.

Wow...evidently I've got a couple of strikes against me. I draw a shitload of fanart (I don't upload all of it, but y'know), and I draw anthro art. Not the brooding Emo/Neon Raver/"OMG I HAZ A TAILZ" kind, but more Therian-esque (look it up)...I REALLY need to quit with the fanart... I DO draw OCs, I just can't seem to get the ink and color right...

An unfortunate truth here is that fanart will make you more popular, but only if it's of a currently popular series. Drawing Naruto fanart will hook in the people who are searching DA solely for the term "Naruto" find your art, and if it's anything reasonable, they'll pop a whole lot of pageviews on you looking for more. I occasionally wonder, cynically, if the way to hook people in is to draw one piece of fanart for a small set of current fads, then draw nothing else of it -- basically, hook people in, and if you're good enough, they won't be too angry at the bait-and-switch that they'll look at your other work.
I haven't actually seen these naga people! Huh.

I can't express how true this is... how frustratingly, sadly true. Although I must make an additional note on how popular fanart is, especially when it's a shipping fanart, or better yet, yaoi fanart.
