My apologies, but I've passed by your comment a lot of times and I just keep getting an urge to reply to you...so I'm finally doing it.

In all respect, why would the artist really care who or what the characters look like? These are someone else's characters, that they made up and have created reasoning for their designs. The artist was just paid to draw them, and most beautifully I might add. If you really want to make a comparison between Kikyo and Azusa, why not bring it to the original owner? She'll likely have all the answers you need.

And overall, Rumiko Takahashi was not the first person to create a black haired shrine maiden wearing a red hakama. The design has been reused so many times over because it's realistic. Almost everyone here in Japan have dark brown to black hair, and the red hakama is a REAL outfit worn my REAL shrine maidens. It's not an original design at all, not even for Takahashi.

My apologies if this comes off stronger than I want it to. It's just that I keep seeing these kinds of comments on =shinjyu 's work. Including the picture I commissioned her for. Someone questioned her about MY character's design, and in all reality, shinjyu doesn't know much about my OCs at all. So I just have this "peeve" (I guess you can call it) about people questioning/critiquing character designs on a commission/gift art of that character, instead of going to the original artist.

Well, yes that is true and I wasn't trying to like accuse him of copying a character or anything. Honestly, when I first saw it I did not even think of Kikyo I mean if you take the time to look at her it looks nothing like her but, the thing that just caught me off guard was that it just reminded me of an episode from Inuyasha and I hadn't seen Inuyasha in a loooonnngggg time. Actually I had mis-used the serpent lady and related her to another character in Inuyasha (the lady that actually takes the young girls to drain them of their youth). But the serpent lady had actually been in one of the very first shows when Kagome is entering this world and Inuyasha has to save her (getting back on topic now) I mean it was a pleasant memory to bring back, I had not seen the episodes in a really long time and to have a picture bring back a memory even if they wern't trying I mean it was still a pleasant experience for me. Yes it is a very beautiful piece and I bet it was worth every cent. And I'm not trying to bring it any negative vibes when I just said it had reminded me of an episode from Inuyasha. I meant the artist no harm, and did not mean to anger you. It just reminded me of an episode that is all.

It's cool. It's understandable since just about everyone's character looks like another character somewhere. It's just, as an artist, if someone questioned me about someone's character I drew...I'd feel stumped and almost embarrassed for not being able to answer. And I wouldn't want to bother the original creator to answer the one asking. It's just a bad feeling, even if shinjyu doesn't feel that way, I think it's best to try and stop the spread of so many people going "Why this, why that?" about characters, especially if the one drawing them doesn't own them.

What's up with it? Let's see. If I recall from the RP at the MUSH, the character was helped by a shrine keeper. As a result, she is helping him with keeping the shrine tended to.

Let me start by saying I appreciate that gloriously respectful tone of yours. It certainly does wonders in maintaining a civil conversation.

Now then, I'm going to disregard that comment about a role play at whatever "the MUSH" is because it really doesn't make any difference at all who she is or what her purpose is. Obviously I knew she was a shrine maiden; the premise of my comment is why there is such a wealth of completely identical characters. Telling me she is a shrine maiden does remarkably nothing to answer my comment.
