Description Woah where have I been, and where did this 3d art come from.

Good question.
Im growing rather tired of space related themes, and I needed a breakthrough piece into the 3d realm. Ive always wanted to learn it ever since I started 2d art, and its just taken an accumulation of all the skills with playing around with 3dsmax.

This is the first true render scene ive ever done, much less anything in 3d other than some asteroids.
Im sure there are some things not that great about it, but its a start in terms of me expanding my horizons in other media.

Hope you like it.

Amazing that this isn't a photograph! I've taken several photos just like this on my visits to Naples, where much of the architecture looks this way...and this could easily be one of them! Amazing reality!

I thought it was a photograph.

Yeah, someone mentioned the pipe on the right. I'd say you have to add a shadown to it t make it a bit more realistic.

Are you serious? I am still in disbelief that this a computer rendering. Until I looked at the category, I was convinced that this was a photograph. I like it because it doesn't have that computer rendered fakeness look.
Hmmmm, let's see advanced critique, huh? I think the only thing a little "off" about this is the drainpipe. It's a bit too shiny for the rest of the facade and it needs a shadow. Other than that, this is truly amazing. The reflections on the glass are the most impressive part of this work.

Absolute brilliance, how did you do the crack in max? If you'd like to suggest a few moves?

This is the Rustic CG 3d I have tried and failed at

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

shirosynth In reply to Sampdoria [2005-06-25 15:41:04 +0000 UTC]

Well I know alot more now than I did before (this image was finished aug of 2004) but using a displacement map and bump map really help out.

You have to have a good texture as well, so look for alot of crack resources so you get an idea of how it looks.

If the crack is really deep though you're gonna have to model it. I just got away with it this time since they were pretty small.

Could use some subtle shadowing on the pipe, but otherwise a gorgeous use of texture, color, and composition.

shirosynth In reply to SixStringer [2005-06-25 15:37:15 +0000 UTC]

Yeah for some reason the shadow for it wasnt as pronounced when the lighting rig was set up. I made this a while ago and i'm currently working with vray.

Nothing concrete. Im slow with these progs.
