Description
My first serious attempt on Realflow.It took almost two days to calculate the particles.
Generating mesh: about one day.
Tweaking animation and rendering (original:640x480): Almost 4 days.
That's almost a whole week!!
My machine was glowing in the dark after that...

That is a really good one. I always tried to do same stuff. But the needed time on one PC was not worth the result. I always calculate the time / benefit factor, so spending a week with generating one effect was way too much.
It will be worth, when I can use more PCs as a render farm.
But nice to see, that you didnΒ΄t let hold by the time.

Indeed. Rendering takes a lot of patience.
And I am permanently broke or saving because I need faster hardware ALL THE TIME.
It can never be fast enough!

You are right. It costs a hell of money to buy hardware, which compensates the count of time investment and not to produce more of it. You can never have enough for this kind of artworks.
I for myself have a simple quadcore Q6600, 4gig RAM and HD4850 and it is enough for simple to mid scene. But if it comes to phyiscs calculations or a huge number of polygons, textures and effects in one scne, my PC gives up.
