Great job. Some awkwardness with the angle and perspective, her butt is rather large and thighs are short, forearms are a bit long.
But overall it is a great piece. I love the colors and her look.

Off topic, but if Rosalina was in MKWii, she'd better be in SMG2.

Wow, ok, lets take a quick sight to see whats wrong with it.
-The blue shell must've been ran-over by a TRUCK because of how LOP-SIDED and unsymmetrical it is.
-The crown would not look that way from the viewing angle.
-That's not how you hold a steering wheel
-She is pretty compressed even though the interior of the single seat car could fit 2
-Why is she staring at the viewer when she should be staring at her victim, whats in front of her, or whats behind her?
-Clothes don't fold that way
-Long fore-arms, bigass thighs
I'm done.

I agree about the shell, it still bothers me for that reason. But what's wrong with her staring at the viewer for a second before launching her attack?

It makes it feel like an attempt at a pin-up rather than a action piece.

Uh, this picture was intended to be a pin-up from the start. Hence the over the top cleavage.

Spngbb In reply to SigurdHosenfeld [2009-06-18 01:54:44 +0000 UTC]
Over the top cleavage doesn't mean a pin-up. A pin up has emphasis on the girl. Take a look at classic pin up and then come back and tell me yours fits into the same category.
It does have certain qualities, such as focusing on a woman and in a "sexy" atmosphere, but once you place the subject into an action element, it doesn't work. Most pin ups close to this would be the lady on a missile, which only works because she isn't doing an action pose, holding a gun and firing it in the air, more of a softer sitting on the bomb sexually pose.
Pin ups focus on the whole women. Her eyes, her smile, her hour-shaped curves and the downright reason why men are attracted to them. This picture is more like "hey look at my c-cup". Whoopdy do.

"but once you place the subject into an action element, it doesn't work."
Now that's rubbish. There's plenty of artworks that prove that action and suggestiveness are not incompatible. It's a shame, your previous criticism are actually more valid. That or my definition of what is considered a pin-up is much more loose.

Spngbb In reply to SigurdHosenfeld [2009-06-18 05:19:37 +0000 UTC]
I never said it couldn't be. Take Lara Croft as an example. She's sexy and an action hero. It can mix, but more often than not it won't be a pin up. Take this for an example:
[link]
This is close to a pin up because you see her whole figure, her curves, and there is a sense of action in the picture. You can tell she is in action but it isn't focus on it, and she isn't focused on the viewer. It is focused on her body and her curves. I dislike this picture because it has a lot of commotion in the corners of the piece.
I'm not saying yours can't be a pin up, I'm saying that it is a far stretch to be one. You can only see so much of the main character. The sense of curves are being forced on by the lines rather than motion. You have other work that I would consider pin up,[link] and you see the girls curves are more emphasized. This one there isn't much emphasis except for her dress is low cut.
That is why I think it would be a stretch to consider this a pin up. I hope you understand what I'm saying.

Car looks plain and the values are too similar to her dress, seeming as though she's not in the car. Try upping the contrast on it and make it look more glossy/metallic. I've never seen the car pictured, however.

You find the tiniest of faults yet you make no mention of her massive bosom. Evidently, that doesn't bother you. :]

-The blue shell is tilted sideways and could be potentially flying which doesn't necessarily require flapping since this is Nintendo.
-Yes, the crown would.
-You can hold a steering wheel however the hell you want.
-She's a tiny woman. of course she doesn't take up that much room.
-all the folds are just fine
-not everybody's body is as bad as yours. Chill out.
-Lastly, get some critique that actually makes sense and doesn't just simply insult the artist.

Spngbb In reply to GeneticExperiment [2009-06-18 01:48:55 +0000 UTC]
I never insulted the artist. I just pointed out errors in their work.
-The crown is portrayed on a separate plane than the top of the skull.
-The steering wheel seems to be pulled on, as if she is using it to pull herself up. Unless you know people who drive while pulling on their steering wheel, I don't know if you know what you're talking about.
-Im not saying that she isn't big enough to fill the space, just that there is a lot of space and she has her elbows tight against her sides.
-The folds are fine it it is a skin tight dress.
-The uncalled for personal hate doesn't allow counter-critique and is a low blow to my size 32 waist, 34-chest, 155lb male body. It's not bad, btw.
I'd love for your response.

I think it looks just fine.

Spngbb In reply to Phevrier [2009-06-17 18:44:42 +0000 UTC]
I think everyone else gave enough positive comments. There's no reason to name faults but then promote other qualities of work. You name the faults so that they'll be improved upon their mistakes and become better altogether.
It's like telling an obese woman she needs a diet but she has a nice personality.
