*EDIT* I'M GOING TO MAKE A CONTEST OUT OF THIS. If you leave a comment, you could potentially get to have me draw a picture, with a HTTYD subject of your choice. This means any characters, cannon or otherwise, dragon or human (note that I'm infinitely better at drawing humans than dragons though). It could be anything from a simple graphite sketch to a full-blown computer-done image. You can win this sketch in two ways (there's two separate contests) You can (a) describe what happened to lead to this scene with Stoick holding a young Hiccup. It can be long, it can be short, it doesn't matter. The one I like best wins this contest. You can (b) describe a picture you'd like me to draw for you. The one I find most inspiring wins the second picture.

HOLY CRUD YOU GUYS, YOU LOVE ME TOO MUCH. BUT SERIOUSLY, I GOT 30 FAVES IN THE FIRST THREE DAYS "HTTYD - Father" WAS POSTED.
THIS IS INSANITY. BUT I LIKE IT.
WHY AM I WRITING IN ALL CAPS?
probably cuz it makes me feel cool ;D But you guys are seriously amazing. The love and support I received for posting a simple little sketch [link] is overwhelming. I mean, it was just this sloppy thing I threw together during our ten-minute passing periods. I never even planned to show it to anyone, let alone post it here. And I never could have imagined how much support from the community I got. 30 faves in 3 days? That's amazing, I'm flattered beyond belief. Did you know that sketch (that silly little sketch, of all things!) was the first time I'd ever got a request from a group to have it displayed in their galleries? I think that made my day.
And, of course, know that I know you're weakness, I plan to exploit it to the fullest. Also known as - I colored the sketch, made it nice and pretty. Call me self-absorbed, but I'm hoping we can beat the record of faves set by the original sketch (hint, hint) After all, a whole lot more work, time, and effort went into this version! (hint, hint) ANYWAY.
I hope you like this one just as much (or more!) than the sketch. Please favorite, and comment too! (You'd totally make my day, just by leaving a little sentence!)
Oh, and I left the background as the brown paper the sketch was on (captain obvious). I liked the effect it gave. HOWEVER, if any of you super awesome people out there would like to collaborate with me, I'd be super flattered! I generally enjoy coloring/shading, and drawing paper sketches. I get easily bored with doing on-computer lineart, and with backgrounds.

Yeah, I also see the loss of Val as being a big deal for the both of them. I wish we'd gotten to see her in the movie, but I supposed then the story wouldn't have been the same.

He carried his exhausted child to bed and Stoick thought to himself as he stepped through the lodge, 'Well that's the last time I'm taking him Fishing'
He'd spent part of the day frantic, noticing his son had disappeared from the dock, and the search that ensued by himself, Gobber, and the villagers for little Hiccup. But there they found him--the lad had managed to wander all the way into the woods. The Chief was relieved and furious but tried keeping an even tone as he asked his son why he had wandered off when he was supposed to be fishing.
The answer was 'Troll Hunting'

A picture to Draw: Kid versions of the Vikings climbing in a tree. Hiccup has fallen, Snotlout and Tuffnut point and laugh, Ruffnut is about to stomp on her brother's fingers. Astrid looks like a bar gymnyst and where Fishlegs stands the branch is cracking.

You're little story was adorable, I can totally see that happening. And I'm very intrigued by your idea for a picture - I'm trying to work out in my head what their expressions would be like!

I'm not really after the sketch, I just can't pass up an opportunity to write about this. It's awesome. So, here goes...something. 
Stoick the Vast slowly entered his home at the top of the village. He'd been at the Summer's Eve feast, in celebration of the coming growing season. There was a clank as his foot him a pot lid on the floor below him. Stoick peered into the dim lighting from the dying fire in the hearth. There were pots and cooking utensils scattered all over the floor in the small cooking area.
"What the devil...?" Stoick questioned as he stepped around the debris in the floor. He'd left Elder Gothi in charge of Hiccup while he was at the feast, at least until he fell asleep. It appeared his son had outsmarted the Elder. Stoick smiled as his armchair in front of the fire came into his view. Hiccup was laying there, using the arm rest as a pillow, the cast iron soup ladle laying in the huge chair beside him. Stoick smiled as he gently picked his son up from the cushioning and carried him to his room as gently as possible.
"Goodnight Hiccup." Stoick said quietly as he tucked his son into bed. He paused for a moment in the doorway as he marveled at how he looked so much like his mother. Stoick then sighed and returned downstairs to clean up the mess before going to sleep.

How cute! Very adorable, if I do say so myself. (Is that a AVPM refrence I detect in there, or am I being absurd? If so, that's okay. I'm weird.) Hiccup: Daddy, why are they taking mom away? What's wrong? Why won't they let me see her?
Stoick: Son, your mother is going to a better place. We won't be able to see her anymore.
Hiccup: Why daddy? Why did the big dragon have to do that?
Stoick: Dragons kill, son. That's just what they do. And they're evil creatures, I don't want you going near one ever again, and I can only assume your mother wouldn't approve either. Promise me you'll stay away from them, Hiccup.
Hiccup: I promise daddy...
They said in the movie that Hiccup's mom was 'in their memories', so I came up with that. Nice picture btw, it's so cute and sad. And I love the shading.

Hiccup sat on the floor and fiddled with his shoes. Stoick the Vast chuckled and sat down next to his son. Hiccup frowned, frustrated, then finally gave up. Stoick chuckled and Hiccup looked at his father.
"Daddy, I know what I want to be when I grow up."
Stoick smiled and asked what that would be. Hiccup replied, "I want to be a sea dragon." He had a serious expression on his face, but at the same time was soft and childish.
Stoick sighed. "You can't be a dragon, Hiccup. You're a Viking. You're going to be chief, just like Daddy."
Hiccup furrowed his brow. "I want to be a dragon."
Stoick frowned. "Vikings can't be dragons, Hiccup. We kill dragons."
Hiccup yawned and rubbed his eyes with his little hands. "I still want to be a dragon, Daddy..."
Bringing Hiccup into his arms, Stoick's expression softened and he ruffled his son's hair. He stood up and cradled Hiccup until he fell asleep. He stood up and brought Hiccup to his room, staring off into the distance. "Hiccup Horrendous Haddock III, you're going to be trouble..."
