Description
Flutterlane."On your marks!"
'Oh how did I get myself into this?'
"Get set!"
'Why am I here?'
"GO!" Yelled Twilight Sparkle, stood meters away from 5 pegasi, who had just bolted off into the sunset, leaving a feather or two behind in the settling dust. 1 pegasus however, remained only meters away from the startline.
Fluttershy.
Twilight trotted over to Fluttershy;
"Come on Fluttershy, go, go, go! You can do it!" She sang cheerily.
"I...I can do it? I can do it.. I CAN DO IT!" Fluttershy said, with a sudden boost of self esteem. "Onwards!" She smiled, and flew faster than before.
"Oh Fluttershy.." Sighed Twilight, walking back to the startline, grabbing her stopwatch as she went.
Fluttershy was a good few yards around the track, when she gradually came to a halt.
"Who am I kidding? Nopony believes in me. I'm not meant for this."
Fluttershy let out a soft sigh, and turned around, walking off the track.
It was a warm summer afternoon, and the sky was a gradient pink, fading into the sweetest tones of peach. A few stars were scattered around...completing the soothing atmosphere.
"Hey!"
Came a voice from behind her. Fluttershy turned her head, then returned to looking at the grass.
"Oh hi, Thunderlane."
"A..Are you alright?...I couldn't help notice that you wasn't racing.."
"Oh, it's okay Thunderlane, thank you for your kind words and consideration, but if I was you...I'd get back in the race or you'll lose. I wouldn't like to see that happen." She said with another soft sigh..
"While you are here though...Um, why have you stopped and come back? You was winning.." Fluttershy turned around, and faced the colt.
"I..I didn't want you to be left out. These pegasi have been training for flight camp, a...and you're not really a member, so I don't understand why they brought you into this."
Thunderlane walked a little closer to Fluttershy, with her head lowered and her deep cyan eyes looking up at him with sadness. "It's clearly unfair to have one...average pegasus against...more experienced ones." Said Thunderlane, quite lost in the gleam of Fluttershy's eyes. She stood there, just as soft and as beautiful as her surrounding environment.
"Fluttershy?" He said, lowering his head to her level. "I...I believe you're quite a sweet pony...I...I don't know anypony quite l..like yourself.." Thunderlane gulped, and tried to disguise his slowly revealing feelings. "...You...are...You shouldn't...be here...It's not the right place...for somepony like you.." He smiled a little.
"Oh....Thanks." Said, Fluttershy, misunderstanding, and her eyes became large and shiny.
Thunderlane thought for a second about what he just said.
"Oh...no no no! Fluttershy, that's not what i meant! What I intended to s..say was that....You're so delicate, fragile, and these ponies here can cause injury to anyone if not careful. They're quite..." Thunderlane closed his eyes and smiled a sweet smile. "...quite inconsiderate brutes, If you ask me!" He chuckled a little, eyes closed.
Fluttershy teared up, and threw her hooves around his neck, hugging him tight.
"Oh Thunderlane, I...I'm such a failure! I really am. I try to be brave, and strong...I really try but I...Just...can't be....normal!" She sobbed.
Thunderlane, still processing what was going on, looked at Fluttershy with wide eyes, who was still weeping upon his shoulder.
He began to flap his wings and held Fluttershy within his arms. Barely flying, but in the air, Thunderlane carried Fluttershy with a warm embrace, floating still above ground. They hovered there. She began to spread her wings too, to help support them.
"Listen, doll. You're unique. Equestria lacks ponies like you a...and I think...No....I KNOW that that's a good thing. You're a rare red rose, lost in the garden of Edenhoof." He nuzzled her forehead, like friends do. "You aren't a failure, dear Fluttershy...You are not a failure. I'm so lucky to have known a pony like you." And with that, he placed her back upon the lush green grass and before leaving, he smiled over his shoulder. Her weeping had ceased now, and was replaced by a slight smile, and her golden cheeks were now petal pink cheeks, painted with a beautiful blush.
Fluttershy walked home, full of new feelings. Feelings only just discovered. She arrived at her cosy little cottage.
"Hello there, Angel!" She smiled, and rubbed the bunny's head with her hoof. The rabbit looked unimpressed.
As always.
"I'm gonna go rest now, bunny. You can do the same. Your little bed is nice and fresh today, I made it this morning. Nice and cosy, and warm. It'll be lovely." She said, smiling down at her gloomy white pet, who slowly hopped across the floor unenthusiastically, not taking his eyes off her.
"Rest now, little bunny. Tomorrow is a new summers day. What surprises will it have in store for us?" She smiled, and made her way to bed...thinking about the sweet words of Thunderlane.
'He was so sweet!' She giggled. 'But I hardly know him..' Fluttershy's mind was everywhere. 'But...oh how wonderful and adorable he was! I must see him tomorrow!'
"I must see him tomorrow." She sighed, and drifted off to sleep.
...
'PRING PRING!' Fluttershy's cottage doorbell rang sweetly.
'Oh' Groaned Fluttershy.
'PRING PRING!' Again, it rang. This time Fluttershy leapt out of bed, and ran to the door, grabbing her bath robe as she ran. Mane in a state, she answered the door.
"H..Hi."
"T...Thunderlane!" Fluttershy immediatelly began to start neatening her mane.
"Your mane...it...it's so....wild!" Thunderlane smiled, happily eyeing the shaggy pink mane that belonged to the one he admired.
"It's a mess. I...I'm sorry." She sank behind the wooden door.
"No, I like it. I really do!" Thunderlane stepped onto Fluttershy's indoor doormat, and peeked down at fluttershy on the floor, covering her messy mane with her golden wings.
"Here." Thunderlane offered her his hoof...and he was then met with a whimper.
"Hey, are you okay?" Thunderlane walked in, and shut the door behind him. "I do hope you don't believe this is intrusion. I'll leave if you like.."
No reply came back.
"I take that as....an 'I don't mind'?" Thunderlane scanned the room, and there, on the cupboard lay a small pink and purple brush.
Over to Fluttershy he trotted, with the brush within his teeth. He swept Fluttershy's wings away from her head with delicacy.
"I hope this helps you.." He said, he sat behind Fluttershy, brush still between his jaws. "Please sit up, Fluttershy. Please do.."
And she did. She said nothing.
Thunderlane began to brush her fine pink mane gently. Each brush left a gleaming trail of straight hair.
"Fluttershy, you're so beautiful." He said....Then he realised he said his thoughts aloud.
Hopeing she didn't hear him, or just didn't think anything of it, Thunderlane grew silent.
There was no noise to be heard in the cottage, other than the silent singing of birds outside.
Then, a voice broke the silence..
"You're.." There was a long pause. "Quite handsome too." Fluttershy said, and grinded her teeth.
Thunderlane felt a strong blush coming on. "W...w...well...Nopony has...e..ever called me that before..." He chuckled nervously.
The silence continued.
"I...I've finished brushing your mane, doll." He grinned.
There was still no reply.
"Fluttershy, have I offended you or s..something...W..whatever I've done wrong, I'm sorry...I'm s..sorry. I...I don't know what I've done to deserve-"
Fluttershy turned around and she pressed her mouth against his, stealing a kiss. Thunderlane grew weak, and his face glowed pink.
"Oh!" He sighed, and slipped into lying down. "Oh!" He sighed again, a smile beamed across his face. He was frozen.
Fluttershy's cheeks were, again, painted with a strong shade of cherry. Both ponies were now lost in what to do.
The atmosphere wasn't quite awkward...but everything seemed to have stopped, and slowed down.
"Y..Y...You don't know what you've done to deserve, that?"
"To be...kissed...b..by the most wonderful a..a..and amazing p...pony, the element of Kindness? I...I don't deserve that. I certainly don't know...what I did to deserve t..that!" He stuttered sweetly.
He sat up...still feeling nervous, shaky, frightened....wonderful.
"I..." Fluttershy said, stopping.
"You?" Asked Thunderlane.
"I...I haven't ever felt this way...about anypony." Said Fluttershy.
"I c..can say the same, right back a..at you!" Thunderlane said, with a nervous laugh.
"Thunderlane," Fluttershy said, yawning mid-sentence. "I think it's time for you to go...BUT! You can come back in an hour or so."
Fluttershy was tired...But, who could blame her? It was early morning, and she got woken by an unexpected visitor...a visit she wouldn't miss for the world.
Thunderlane's happiness seemed to drain from him like a plug being pulled from a bath full of water.
"Yes, Fluttershy. I'll be back! Promise." He smiled, still blushing.
He gave Fluttershy a warm hug before leaving.
Opening, the door, he bumped into a male pony, about to knock, or barge in, or so it seemed.
"Thunderlane." Grunted the strange yet familiar pony, peering down on Thunderlane. He was average height in stature, had a aqua green coat, and a light grey short, sharp and shaggy mane. His eyes were an ice blue, a nice tone, yet they were staring at Thunderlane with impatience and anger. His cutie mark were three cloudy sky blue clovers, neatly assembled upon his flank.
Thunderlane cowered in his shadow.
"I...was just leaving." Scowled Thunderlane, and brushed past him in a huff.
Thunderlane grew concerned. That stallion didn't look nice. Thunderlane sat at the end of the pathway, and watched Fluttershy answer the door. He felt a burning sensation within him. He felt angry.
Mad.
He wanted to punch something.
Hard.
Thunderlane was jealous.
"Oh hi Algae Blue." Fluttershy said, her eyes drooping, no expression shown.
She was ready to collapse from tiredness.
"You said you couldn't wait to see me." He smiled, trying to impress her.
"Grr!" Thunderlane growled, almost thrusting himself forward.
"Aren't you going to let me in?" Algae snapped boastfully.
"Oh...s...sure." Fluttershy didn't want to. But she didn't want to seem rude.
She pulled open the door slowly, but Algae just barged in.
"E...Excuse me!" Fluttershy exclaimed, for Algae Blue's rude entrance.
"So-rry!" He said sarcastically.
'He's so rude. Algae's not himself today...Oh I wish Thunderlane was still here, he'd tell him a thing or two.' Thought Fluttershy. Algae was invading her personal space. Yet, she didn't mind that Thunderlane did. Fluttershy and Thunderlane had been friends since foalhood. (and fillyhood!)
...
"Oh Fluttershy." Thunderlane sighed. He shut his eyes and kicked the dust below his hooves. I knew you was too good for...somepony like me.
