Description #11: Snow Miser & Heat Miser - The Year Without a Santa Claus

www.youtube.com/watch?v=a7M9xq…

So, before anyone says otherwise, I'm not cheating on this one. One would say that it deviates from the theme of alternate incarnations of Santa Claus, but the Miser brothers actually DID fill in as Santa in "A Miser Brothers Christmas" so this technically count and is in no way just a flimsy excuse I have to validate my adding in these two that I have an odd obsession with~ plus they also fulfill that roll of odd entities that people keep trying to force into the Christmas mythos. Seriously, has anyone else noticed that? Like every year there's some new character trying to be forced in as a tradition. Was Jesus and Santa just not enough that we really needed things like the Winter Warlock and these bozos?

Anyway, to begin I do need to clarify, unlike most I've never been a fan of the Rankin & Bass stop motion specials. I always found them annoying, poorly made, somewhat creepy and in the case of Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, morbidly depressing. Every year around the holidays I would see these things pop up all over the place and I always did my best to avoid watching them, but here and there they'd manage to stay on the screen either out of boredom or because my MST3k warped brain found joy in periodically finding cheesy crap and making fun of it, and that's precisely what happened the day I saw 'The Year Without a Santa Claus'.

I'm used to Rankin & Bass films being weird, but this one was just boring. Little happens and just as I was about to change the channel... it happened. THEY came onto the screen. In a flash of raw absurdity, in come these two temperature fops and forever changed me! ...which is an over dramatic way of saying these two became a massive inside joke for me. Another case of loving something ironically, the sheer insanity of their intros and overall presence was weird even by Rankin & Bass standards and I couldn't forget them even if I tried. (and trust me, I tried) So, due to my childhood trauma, they deserve a shout out.

Why did you draw the two of us for Christmas?
