Laura Dora was a police officer, one as honest and good as they come. The same could not be said of the rest of her precinct, many of whom were megalomaniacal, cruel, uncaring, and heavily involved in corruption. There were certain unwritten and unspoken rules within the force, but Officer Dora had little concern or respect for such things. She learned the hard way what happens to officers who go against the grain when she attempted to bring down one of the most important figures in the criminal underworld, Adrian Darli.
It wasn't long before Darli was released from custody, with Laura having made a powerful enemy. Framed for a murder she didn't commit, an innocent and disgraced Laura Dora was sentenced to life in a harsh prison. Laura continued to try to be as good a person as she could, though the other prisoners were well aware and none too happy that she was a former cop, and the correctional officers had little love for her either, treating her like a dog and making her life miserable.
Laura often daydreamed, imagining herself as one of the correctional officers, and how she would treat even those who have been cruel to her with kindness and respect. She wished others believed in the power of love and kindness like she did, how much better this prison, the prisoners, the correctional officers, and the world as a whole would be, if people didn't have to be so power-hungry, hateful, and mean to each other. None dared to call Laura Dora soft, however, as she was strong and vigilant, a well-trained former police officer.
Her best friend, a school teacher named Lilo Boots, would often visit her. One day, the visits stopped. There had been a shooting at the school, and Ms. Boots had died in the attack.
Laura had lost what little will to live that she still had left. A few days later, Laura was found hanged in her cell.
Perhaps this was the end of her story, or perhaps it was not. After all, it is said that sometimes the stars themselves take pity and reward those that they find deserving. Though such stories may well be little more than fairy tales...
