Unlike his younger brother who has evolved, Kai has not evolved since the past years. (Resulting in him, to look older than a younger Squirtle)
Kai believes that if he evolved, he would lose his memories of his past friends including his siblings.
So Kai has kept a everstone around his neck to prevent his evolution, resulting in him keeping various scars from the enemies he has met along the way.
He focuses on training other Pokémon to help them evolve, and teach them how to defend themselves.
