This is a sequel painting to The Tree Woman (2024)

Story: A young man, driven by curiosity, found himself before the ruins and, defying the ominous presence of the wooden woman, ventured inside the decrepit house. Within moments, he stumbled upon a portrait lying on the ground, depicting a man and a woman. As his fingers made contact with the aged canvas, a surge of dread washed over him, and a piercing scream shattered the silence of the desolate place. Acting on instinct, he seized the painting and bolted from the house, the relentless wail echoing in his ears as he fled into the forest. The wail persisted, echoing through the forest and reaching the ears of those miles away. Each person who laid eyes upon the painting confessed an inability to recognize the enigmatic couple depicted within it. Yet, amidst the confusion, an elderly man's recollection stirred a whisper of familiarity. "The painting," he mused, "evokes an old tale from my childhood—a story of a wealthy couple, their opulent life abruptly cut short by a mysterious disappearance." His memory faltered at the details, but he continued, "They spoke of whispers that it was the husband who snuffed out his wife's life... Though the specifics elude me, they say her restless spirit still roams, haunting the very town in which they once lived."
