Thanks for the fav tracks feedback.
Check the ID3's, the comment field says which song came from which game. Dancing The Tokage is from Chrono Cross.
The SOTN soundtrack is one of my favorites, I'd be afraid to touch the songs, I like em all as is.

That's a quite interesting track collection you got there... I'm impressed!
Some of my personal favourites (at the moment) are... lemme see...
01 - Another World (smashmethod Dub)
The original tune is a very good base, and I really like what you made out of it.
02 - Evil Cat Polka Carnaval (smashmethod Remix)
*snickers* This is a favourite of mine for reasons I cannot pinpoint. I guess it's just as silly-happy as I often like to be
11 - Chateau Aiguille (smashmethod's Renaissance Remix)
Once again, I've already been a fan of the original tune. And once again, I'm impressed by your approach. Very enjoyable!
Thanks for giving me something to listen to (God knows I needed it...)

Thanks for the fav-track feedback. Some initial feedback I got was that Chateau Aiguille was a tad slow, and didn't really "hit" until like 3 minutes in. I personally kind of like the slow build, makes the payoff that much more when the strings hit.
Who doesn't like polka?

Now this is what Im talking about, and there might be some songs I dont know what are a remix from, so could you give me a list of the original songs they are remixed from? Thanks!

The track names are all unchanged, and the game from which each came from is in the comment field of the ID3 tags. Though if you want a list / aren't Dling them, just tell me, and I'll type it out here.

Looks like I chose a good time to check my dev watch page! I pounced on all of these immediately. You know, you should try submitting something to Overclocked Remixes! You'd fit right in, believe me. If you haven't before, check it out: [link]
My favourite has to be Another World. The song has always held such sentimental value for me, and it was the first thing from a game I learned on the piano. Speaking of which, I loved your incorporation of piano here. The drum track is a nice addition, and adds more character to the song, allowing for the nice fades and reverse cymbal intros. Very well done.
Dancing the Tokage is a great remix too! It sounds a lot like "No More, No Less" by Collective Soul with the opening. (As you can see, I am a Chrono Cross fan.)
I look forward to your next release!

Thanks for all the feedback. About OCR... that place is more about dramatic changes, and making the tunes sound (usually) nothing like the originals. They don't take well to when you actually leave the melody/song in tact.
I prefer keeping what I liked about the originals in tact, and just making minor alterations, conforming them more to a style I prefer over the original. If you like a song enough to remix it, why make it sound nothing like the song you liked? Maybe that's just me.

I agree with you for the most part, but they do make some exceptions. Often they take more to a heavy technolised version of the original song - an 808 drum track and some synth sounds often do the trick for them. Sometimes you get pieces that actually work with the original, and really qualify for the title "remix" - check out "600 A.D. in Piano" by kLuTz. This artist normally starts out with the melody line, then proceeds to embellish is more and more working up toward the end. Not your style, of course, but the OCR mods go for it. And we all know I like piano.
Another remixer on the site had this to say, also agreeing with your complaint: "This... accomplishes its goal through attention to technique and refined musicianship, a pairing of qualifications that is too often eclipsed by mastery of programming, overproduction and beatboxing." What's to stop you from giving it a try though? Come on, you know you wanna.

All right, all right, suit yourself. I thought you'd do really well for yourself if you gave it a shot is all ^_^; It's good judgment.

There's two from there on the disc. The "Dancing The Tokage" one is extremely old though, not nearly as pollished.

hey! i love Evil Cat Polka!! (errr... ironic isn't it? LOL!) and some tunes are taken from different songs but u remixed them rite? Like the Dancing of Tokage... its taken from Chrono Cross Soundtrack! cool!!
btw, jus a question... how come some downloads last only.. a few seconds? is there somethin wrong with my download or is it originally a few secs long?
π: 0 β©: 1
smashmethod In reply to Meow360 [2005-07-11 08:20:14 +0000 UTC]
All the songs are remixes/dubs of original songs from video games. The games they're from are in the ID3's. The shortest track is the sampler, at 2m15s.
If your DL's are cutting off... it's some kind of DLing problem, none of the tracks are mere seconds in length.

Actually the art reminds me of this Sega Master System game called Mega Zone, except it was more of a pink/teal colour scheme. Man that was a good game I need to buy myself a Sega. Man that was a long time ago.
I've only downloaded track 4 so far but it's great.

I'll have to go look for shots of that game. Thanks for the feedback, #4 is one of my faves, I just wish I remembered what the title of it was.

Woah I didn't even realize you also make music. Yeah I'm pretty uh... low budget I guess working of Playstation Music Generator and Fruity Loops for now. But I've made a few Final fantasy remixes. Anyways, being a fan of video game music and techno (I'm assuming your music is... well in the general sense Techno, right?) I would really like to hear it. Is there any way you could ship out a copy or could I buy it off a website or what?

I'm glad your interested, but I don't sell my music as of right now. All my original material CDs (4 at the moment) is availble for DL off my website: [link] (Just check the "Music & Album Design" section).
These VG mixes are going to just be availble for DL (the links are in the description) for the first couple hundred people.
