Important things not included in the ref:

- Kayode (aka Kai) was found by Kubaya and his mate Kivuli while the two lions were out searching for water due to a bit of a draught that had befallen the Night Pride and the Tree of Life. The cub was crying in a den that was impressively overgrown, it looked as though no one had been there in ages. So they assumed the cub was abandoned. But he was in fairly decent health so someone must've been looking out for him. Kuba and Kivu both insist that the cub was abandoned but the Night Pride higher ups did not come to the same conclusion. They were ordered to return the cub or to leave the pride. They chose the latter.

- There is some chance that Kayode was abandoned because he was born with developmental issues that were just starting to show at the time he was found. He had poor balance and reflexes for a cub his age, and went on to continue to miss developmental milestones such as when (and how) he learned to talk, when (and how) he learned to walk, and subtle behavior things like impulse control.

- Though he grew out of most of these problems, others surfaced over time and though Kivu was skeptical about caring for a special needs cub, Kuba convinced him that they needed to keep him, he would never survive in a pride if he grew up to need special care. So they raised him from cubhood all of the way into adulthood.

- As a cub he is still pretty clumsy, his reflexes are not the best. He works hard to defeat this problem though, as he is obsessed with learning how to hunt. So he trains and practices like it is the only thing that matters. Besides being unsteady on his feet, he has really bad memory loss and directions to him need to be repeated several times before he can remember them with any success. He also has a lot of anxiety and has panic attacks a lot, probably because he was abandoned and not because of anything related to his development.

- He is built like a Pridelander but has an Outlander nose and muzzle, so his exact heritage is unknown, his parents were never encountered by... anyone really. He certainly has no memory of them.

- His teeth are not the best and are crooked, sticking out of his mouth at odd angles. He has never felt any shame about this though, he just looks like his father Kuba, who he adores, so he's actually quite proud of his crooked smile. Especially around his father, he is always beaming in Kuba's presence.

- Kayode is a kind and gentle soul. Though he is shy and scared of strangers, he is willing to give anyone a chance to be his friend. He is amicable and non-confrontational, peaceful and sweet. He soaks up knowledge like a sponge and is always eager to learn new things from his parents, though he's a little more standoffish around other cubs his age. He tends to cling to his fathers, who know to take it slow and to repeat themselves when they teach him things.

- His favorite part of the day is being groomed by his father Kivuli. He likes getting baths, it's just a comforting intimate sort of action. In his father's arms, he is special, he is loved, he is protected, there's just no place he'd rather be.

- He has no qualms about having two dads, though other cubs make fun of him for it. He wouldn't trade his parents for anything, they are both wonderful to him, even the skeptical Kivuli warmed up really quickly. Though Kai knows that he was adopted, obviously, he does not have any reservations about being raised by homosexuals. If anything, it made them more attentive to him about teaching him about equality and respect and sexuality and all of those things. It's probably why he is such an accepting cub, he doesn't judge anyone for anything, but especially not their sexual orientation.

- Though usually well behaved, he does have moments where he completely loses his sense of coherence, he gets incredibly anxious and upset, to the point that he sometimes starts hurting himself. Kuba is usually the one who snaps him out of it, but step one is to restrain the cub so that he doesn't injure himself, so usually an adult has to sit on him until he calms down enough to talk. It seems to be anxiety driven, like a kind of panic attack, but no one really knows for sure what exactly triggers these reactions in him.

- Though he can talk, he is very quiet and shy about it, only really speaking to animals that he knows really well. Otherwise, he is completely closed off and reclusive when he is first introduced. But he is a curious cub and wants to interact with others, he's just really insecure and doesn't know how to... do it. He is miles and miles more confident when either of his dads are present.

- His black claws are always visible.

- He has three whisker spots and four whiskers on each side. The top and bottom most whiskers are short, while the two middle whiskers are much longer.

So you guys might remember this fellow- Kubaya's "little man", Kayode. I decided to update his reference sheet and really flesh him out a bit, as I think my TLK universe is going to focus on a pride that he and his fathers establish, so he is essentially the prince, the next in line. So he'll be an important character so I thought I'd just touch up his design somewhat.

His basic story is still the same but I added some details here and there, and I tried to make him a little more recognizeable than he was before. But the colors and markings are the same, it's really just his environment that I updated. But I really enjoyed drawing this and I think it came out as intended so I'm pleased with it. Plus, I recorded my progress with it so that'll be up on the Youtubes in the next couple of days. I have the video finished but I want to change the music that I chose so I'll have to re-render it. So that might take a minute. I'll let you all know when it is up though.
