Description

Greedi is a scrawny, furless Cat-Imp  merchant who lives alone in an ice-cave located in the Breach , trading to any travelers that pass by.

Greedi can be described as: A small hairless Cat-Imp, tan in color, with a lighter beige underbelly and blueish-grey gradient running the length of his limbs and tail. His body has a sparsely spotted pattern which takes a slightly darker hue than the skin around it. He has a healthy amount of spikes going down his neck and back, and a stouter face than the average Cat-Imp. He likes to leave his tongue a little bit out, but is capable of sucking it in if needed. Greedi has pale green eyes, and a greyish-blue inner mouth filled with multiple rows of teeth.

Personality / Roleplaying Greedi

Greedi is all alone so he will usually be very friendly and eager to converse with travelers so long as they do not steal or touch his stuff. He can be described as a chatty, energetic, charismatic, and high ups-and-downs personality. It doesn't take a lot to make Greedi happy or mad, or to switch him from one extreme to the other. Greedi is naturally curious and inquisitive, but he doesn't like to take risks and values his self preservation over something new. Greedi is extremely self-serving, and only wants what's best for himself, by extension the only way for Greedi to care about other people is by making him believe their wellbeing is directly tied to his own well-being, or that there is a worthwhile benefit in it for himself. Greedi sees the opportunity for benefit or gain in meeting new travelers, which is why he runs a shop. As far as Cat-Imp's go, Greedi can be classified as more intelligent than average and is referred to by other Cat-Imps as cunning, sneaky, and not to be trusted. As a Greed Affinity Cat-Imp, Greedi's primary drive is to get more items for his collection in the safest possible way.

Greedi likes to touch things to see how soft they are, if something is a worthwhile add to his collection he may try and steal it for himself. If Greedi feels he can get away with it, he may try and touch travelers clothing or skin, masking his intentions under a cute or charismatic façade. If Greedi felt he could get away with it free from consequences, he would rob a person blind and leave them with less than nothing.

In addition to soft things, Greedi fancies objects that are shiny and beautiful and will adorn himself with these objects so that he feels extra fancy and can show them off.

If travelers develop a good relationship with Greedi via trading him items that he wants, he may offer to pay them in more unique ways, such as: offering to teach Aethonish or Psy-Speak, giving survival tips about the levels below the Breach, or even offering free food. No matter how much Greedi likes the people he meets, he will not join them in their travels because he is worried about leaving his hoard behind. Greedi will frequently kneed soft items, especially new ones he receives from trades or transactions. If the party follows Greedi on one of his routine outings, he will want to be carried because he doesn't like the snow on his skin, he will try and climb onto people himself to make this happen. Greedi will try and bite if someone pets him without his permission.

Greedi has traveled all over Aethos, and back and forth between Source worlds and his home dimension. This experience makes him knowledgeable on SW Inhabitants, and the value of objects in and outside his world. When Greedi sees travelers, he will (unless angered) try to use Common language before trying alternatives. He knows what humans are, but doesn't understand the difference between humans and human-looking species (like elves, dwarves, giants, or even orcs). He may simply refer to these creatures as "green human," "small/large human," "the pointy human" etc. He will understand that non-Aethonite creatures need warmth, non-Aethonite food / water, oxygen, etc to survive, but the quality of the items he provides for these needs may be lacking.

Greedi's Blue Star-Blankie

Greedi always carries around a baby-blue blanket with a golden star pattern for warmth due to his absence of fur. The blanket feels like an extremely soft material comparable to Cashmere, however if someone were to try and break down the blanket to determine the material, the results would be inconclusive, even through a magical means. Greedi will tie the blankie around his neck so it doesn't fall off. This is Greedi's prized possession and perhaps the only reason he is still alive in the breach. He will not part with it, travel without it, or allow anyone other than himself to use it. Greedi will use his Psy-speak to talk to the blanket regularly, and he will swear to the party that the blanket understands him (it does).

Mechanically: The blanket is a sentient magical artifact. It's abilities are activated as long as an individual is completely covered by the blanket. While it's abilities are active: users are unable to be harmed or moved and the blanket itself will seem extremely heavy to anyone outside it. It can be lifted/pried open only by a Strength Check of 25 or greater. Such an act will traumatize the blanket and make it loath the people responsible.
While inside the blanket, you can see through it as you could with any normal blanket such that visibility is possible, but obstructed, and often dependent on how much light is outside. The stars seem to glow faintly while inside. A person inside the blankie can leave whenever they want, but if there are still people under the blanket, they will get locked out unless the people inside let them in. If no one is left under the blankie it will go back to being a normal blanket.

This is a quality blanket that does a good job retaining or venting heat to maintain a reasonable internal temperature.
It can support up to 4 medium creatures, but Greedi will not share. The blanket activates immediately once it senses a user is completely covered. No part of the body can be outside the blanket, including the head, or the blanket will not work. The process of making ones-self completely covered should take at least a minute. Depending on the preparedness of the user, and how much the blanket likes them, this startup time can be adjusted to be faster or slower at the DM's Discretion.
Even while the blanket is not "active", it seems to be immune to damage against itself, it simply will not protect its user.

For example: if you threw a fireball at a person holding the blanket up, the blanket would be fine, but the uncovered person would not be and would likely still catch fire. However, if they were wrapped up inside the blanket, they would be unharmed. This means in some cases it is possible to use the blanket like a very flimsy shield.

Emotionally: The Blue Star-Blankie has awareness of its surroundings. It can tell when someone is using it, and who that someone is. In addition, the Blue Star-Blankie has a special bond with Greedi that was formed when Greedi sacrificed his own well-being for the blanket's. This affects the blankets performance in two ways:

First: Greedi does not have the one minute startup time when using the blanket, and can activate the blanket as quickly as 12 seconds, potentially even faster if the blanket suspects Greedi is about to be struck with a fatal blow. Just as Greedi tries to protect the blanket with his life, so too does the blanket look out for Greedi.

Second: Because Greedi would never willingly part with the blankie, it can be assumed that for the blanket to be owned by another, it was taken by force; either by a player killing Greedi, or taking the blanket through some other traumatic means. In response the blanket will hate its new user. It will emit a curse that dampens its current user's ability to use simple problem solving while holding the blanket. Specifically Blue Star-Blankie will target a user's ability to troubleshoot covering themselves up. Resulting in a 1 minute use timer during combat (or worse, depending on the trauma the blanket has witnessed and it's level of spite).

Other things the Blue Star-Blankie may do in its anger include:
-Rebel against being used as a normal blanket via sliding off people that try to use it in the night.
-Make its stars glow extremely bright in dangerous situations to attract the attention of enemies.
-Regulate its temperature incorrectly, such that being under the blanket for too long is uncomfortable or maybe even dangerous.
-Make itself really heavy randomly.

Reducing this behavior means undoing the hatred the blanket has for its new users, which is a lengthy process that requires rebuilding and re-earning the artifact's trust over the course of the game.
The blanket responds the strongest to acts of selflessness, protection, and nurturing.

Greedi's Goals

Item of Supreme Softness: Greedi is after soft items above all else. More specifically, Greedi is after the world's softest items. He frequently ventures out looking for and collecting the latest soft item, comparing and classifying them based on the degrees of softness, hoping to find "an item of supreme softness". The crowning achievement for his collection.

Hoarding Maintenance: Despite the drive to find one specific item, Greedi is a hoarder, and sees great value in all of the objects he has collected. He will notice when one is missing and he will become disproportionally upset if one is damaged or stolen. He is so afraid of losing his collection that the only conditions that would permit him to permanently leave his home are down to matters of life and death. Greedi will leave the house regularly for short periods of time to find food and look for more items, but these periods are very brisk and Greedi will show signs of agitation and anxiety while he is away from home. Even more than finding the item of supreme softness, Greedi's top priority is to care for and protect his belongings.
When he is not sleeping or exploring for new items, Greedi will wash and clean the clothes he has found and hang them to dry outside.

Cold-Turkey Pyromaniac: Cat-Imps are Pyromaniacs by nature, and Greedi is no exception. He wants he be able to own his own fire like he did back home, but had to give it up after multiple burning mishaps with his soft-things collection. Greedi has no solution for this problem, but it does cause him sadness and grief which he may voice to people he trusts, hoping they may have a solution for his dilemma. By default, Greedi has all but given up on the idea of ever owning a fire in his lair again. He frequently shivers and expresses being too cold despite having a blankie.

Hiding From Many Crimes: Greedi was cast out by the Cat-Imp gang after a string of bad incidents. More specifically Greedi was marked to be killed, but managed to escape into the Breach and find a quiet place to hide. Greedi is still hiding from the Cat-Imp Gang, who are still sending out scouts looking for him. If they successfully find him, they will not only try to capture or kill him, but will destroy his collection and cave in his house as well. Needless to say the stakes to remain undetected are high for Greedi. He will only explain why the Cat-Imp gang wants to kill him if the person asking has developed a good reputation with him and he feels he can trust them. Players can try and save Greedi by intercepting the Cat-Imps sent to kill him.
He will be willing to pay off people who threaten to rat him out.

Merchant Aspects

Greedi behaves like an average merchant. Though Greedi likes soft things above all else, he has and will trade all manner of general goods, including food, water, armor, jewelry, potions, money conversions, etc. Greedi prefers soft or shiny items, and will think more highly of the party the more they trade these items with him. Because Greedi is an outcast, you can buy his goods using any Aethos Coin. You can also trade / sell / buy illegal items in the same way.

Bartering: Greedi has a highly developed sense of currency and material value for both the SW and Aethos. He can not be easily tricked on the worth of items players find; he can however, be persuaded to trade "better items" in exchange for things he has preference for (like soft things). He may strategically mark up items that are hard to come by to try and get the most out of desperate people.

Greedi's History

Greedi was born to a well off circumstance, as a Pride Affinity Gooling belonging to the Cat-Imp Gang in the Summit. He was one of many Goolings which were made specifically to serve the Cat-Imp Gang's second in command. Unlike a lot of Goolings, Greedi had access to knowledge and resources that allowed him to grow up more capable and intelligent than other Cat-Imps, however he was born "too small" and faced hardships fitting in as he reached his finalized state.

One day while out raiding a rival camp to find food for the town fire, the second in command discovered the Blue Star Blankie in a Source World denizens possession. Unaware of what it was, he asked Greedi to carry it to the fire with the rest of the items and throw it in. Greedi had never touched something so soft before, and at that moment he found new passion in soft items. Greedi refused to throw the blanket in the fire, which enraged the second in command to such a degree that he ripped it out of Greedi's hands and tossed it in himself. Panicked, Greedi dug at the ground and used the earth to snuff out the town fire to try and save the blanket, which was considered an ultimate crime in his species' fire-centered culture. During the town's mass hysteria and confusion, Greedi took the blanket and escaped up into a Source World to lay low. Greedi was labeled as a Fire-Killer by his people, and sentenced to death along with the unscathed blanket (that was also guilty). He hide in the SW for almost a year before returning back into the Breach.

Unsatisfied with just his life, Greedi wanted a lair and a collection of soft things all his own, and he wanted to get back at the second in command for trying to destroy the blanket. First, Greedi located a place he could hide (his current home) and then put his plan into motion. While the Second in Command was out on another scheduled raid, Greedi snuck into the Second in Command's house and stole all his soft things and money using his childhood knowledge of the location. On his last run, and while he was in the middle of trashing the house, Greedi was discovered by the Second in Command's guards. He once again successfully fled the scene. The Second in Command was so furious he issued a demand for posters to be placed up all over the city, and a bounty to be placed on Greedi's head.

To this day Greedi is still living happily in his hide away in the Breach, venturing out to rob people to take their shinys and their soft stuff, ever growing his lair's collection. The population of the Summit is still very very mad at Greedi, and they may even try to kill travelers they find out are consorting with Greedi.
