Description Hey everyone. This is SofiaBlythe2014. When it comes to developing a show, there are usually plenty of changes between what you pitch and what ends up on screen. However, some shows are special in that they had almost completely different premises before they became what we know. Today I will talk about 3 shows that were radically altered from their original ideas.

1. Justice League Action Was Originally A Batman Show

So we all know about Justice League Action. It focuses on the main trio of Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman, and places a heavy emphasis on showing the wider DC Universe. It's all in 11 minutes, but it delivers on all front. That's not what it was going to be about though. The show was originally conceived as a solo Batman cartoon. However, series co-creators Alan Burnett and Butch Lukic felt strongly about doing a Justice League show. A week later, they pitched the idea, and the show was greenlit. Of course, this was also because of the 2017 Justice League movie, with the show being made to promote that. I'm glad the show turned out how it did. Batman's a great character and all, but with this show, there are all sorts of unique combinations. For example, one episode from October 2017 had Wonder Woman and Green Arrow team up with The Riddler to rescue Batman from The Joker. I'm not kidding. It's a pity the show was cancelled, but at least it was fun to watch.

2. Cleopatra In Space Was Originally A Movie

Cleopatra In Space is a Dreamworks show that first came out in Asia back in late 2019. It's based on a graphic novel from Mike Maihack and was put onto the Peacock streaming service last month. It focuses on a teenage Cleopatra as she's transported 30,000 years into the future, where she learns she's the savior of The Nile Galaxy. She must attend PYRAMID, a school designed for combat training. She gets through this together with her new friends Akila, Brian, and Kehnsu. The show is very enjoyable with charming characters and smart writing. That's not how it was going to be though. According to series showrunner Doug Langdale, the show was originally conceived as a theatrical movie, but he felt there was more potential for a TV show. I agree with him. Movies can tackle great ideas, but they're still bound by a 90-100 minute runtime, and are usually one and done things. With a TV show, you can have more of a buildup so that the intense moments will have a more meaningful impact behind them. By the way, go check out the show. It's great.

3. The Owl House Was Originally About A Dead Luz

My last choice is The Owl House. We all know about the show. It centers on a young teenager named Luz Noceda as she's transported to The Boiling Isles. Together with Eda, King, and the new friends she makes, she learns how to be a witch and perform magic. Just like everyone else, the show lives up to the hype with its strong plot and great characters. However, that's not what the show was originally going to be about. At one point, the show would've been about Luz after she died, taking place in the afterlife. That is pretty gutsy to have your main character be a dead child. This reminds me of the Teletoon cartoon Jimmy Two Shoes, where the main character would've been explicitly dead and in the underworld, but it had to be changed when Disney distributed the show. Having dead kids in kid's shows is already touchy, but having the main character be one? I can see why this was changed.

Thanks for reading. Have a good day.
