It was the first day of autumn and Sally and I headed to one of the local orchards to go apple picking. Though we were entering a cooler season, it was still fairly warm, and so Sally decided to wear one of her...I guess you could say "less modest" outfits."Are you sure you should be wearing that?" I asked her. "What if people...look?"
"Let them look," Sally said. She placed her hands on her hips and thrust her still-small baby bump in my direction. "What's wrong? You don't like the idea of other people ogling your pregnant wife?"
I didn't know what to say. Sally laughed.
"Relax," she said. She gently stroked her belly, which was exposed for all the world to see. Along with her crop-top, she was wearing a pair of hip-hugging denim shorts. From a distance, you probably wouldn't have been able to tell she was pregnant. Most people at the orchard probably thought she was just a bit pudgy in the middle, I thought. Then, as if she'd read my mind, Sally said, "Everyone'll just think I'm fat."
"You're not fat!" I blurted out.
The other visitors at the orchard turned to look at me. Sally giggled at my embarrassment.
