Constructed in Tarn, Megatron was built as a mining transport during the first phase of the post Quintesson-war expansion.

Because he had a flight-capable alt-mode Megatron was fortunate enough to have considerably more travel rights than most other members of the manual caste, and he spent most of his early years in his alt-mode transporting the raw Energon and the other minerals mined in Tarn to the refinery’s in Praxus, Iacon and beyond, although he would occasionally pitch in within the mines themselves.

As most of the long delivery journeys were uneventful -baring the occasional attack by raiders/thieves whom Megatron had to quickly learn to defend himself against- and as there isn’t a lot else to do while in Alt-mode he found himself spending much of his time composing poetry in his head, debating philosophy with himself and considering the state of the world around him.

Megatron eventually began to question the Caste system and the corruption prevalent on Cybertron and began to write and publicize his thoughts, much to the ire of the senate. He also developed an intense distaste for the notion of Primehood, believing that a single Cybertronian should not wield that much physical, religious and political power, although he still maintained a grudging level of respect for the aging Sentinel Prime.

His writings and speeches soon came to the attention of the younger Iaconian Archivist Orion who sought Megatron out to ally himself with his cause. The two would become close friends and confidants and eventually founded what would become known as the Decepticons.

Although the Decepticons would find an ally in Sentinel Prime and a few other members of the Senate, most notably the diplomat Shockwave and the Lord of Vos, Starscream, Pax gradually became angered at their lack of progress and Megatron’s reluctance to use more direct means of forcing change. In his frustration Pax eventually conspired with Senator Dai Atlas, to murder Sentiel Prime, frame Megatron, and secure Dai Atlas as the new prime. In return Dai Atlas would abolish the caste system and root out the corruption.

Pax justified all this to himself by believing that Megatron would be willing to die for reform. However Pax himself would be betrayed by Dai Atlas who had no intention of following through on his side of the bargain.

After Sentinels murder Megatron was indeed arrested, however before he was transferred to a higher security prison for execution, he managed to persuade the Police Detective, Barricade, of his innocence. Not wanting to stand by while an innocent Mech was killed, Barricade assisted Soundwave, Soundwaves Minicons, and the chief archivist Liege Maximo (one of the original thirteen primes), in breaking Megatron out of his captivity.

Upon discovering that Orion Pax, was the murderer and that Pax (who had taken the Key to Vector Sigma off Sentinels corpse) was trying to claim the matrix and Primehood for himself, Megatron tracked his former friend down into vector sigma (after Leige informed him of its location).

Unfortunately, in the ensuing fight over the matrix, Orion Pax did become Optimus Prime.

Bolstered by his new power Optimus Prime overthrew the senate and took brutal control over Cybertron and beyond. Knowing his once-friend had to be stopped, Megatron repurposed the Decepticon movement as a resistance force, with the city’s of Tarn, Vos and Kaon being the first polities to declare themselves independent and allying themselves with Megatron and his forces.

In response Optimus Prime vowed to “Hunt down Sentinel Primes Killer” and declared war on the rebellious cities and the Deceptions starting the great Cybertronian Civil war.
