Raymond Kainman AKA Nocturnal, thief king of Sentinel City. Equal parts Batman, The Shadow, Sherlock Holmes, Robin Hood, James Bond, Sly Cooper and Darkwing Duck.

Born the son of a rich family secretly famous for it's great escapades as members of the Hands Of Hood , Raymond Kainman travelled the world at an early age, learning much. His adopted ancestors (the society grew through passage of teachings more than dependency on a single bloodline) had amassed much wealth throughout the centuries, always rising to the challenges of the growing world. From the discovery of America to the digital age, the Hoods always reigned as a secret illuminate, challenging the corruption the wealthy and the arrogance of the law. Tired and unsure of their place in the world, Raymond's parents taught him many of the Hand's secrets early in his life, uncertain if they wanted their son to grow into their tradition. After all what was there left for him to do?

They believed they had discovered something with the creation of Sentinel City, a man made city for the 21st century. Constructed on the very outskirts of California and spreading to a large island made of steel, concrete and earth imported from beneath the Artic and the Sahara to provide soil, the city became a multi laired jungle of buildings, each level dedicated to Maintenance, Industrial, Suburban, Entertainment and Culture with a beautifully kept park in the centre, the Millennium Forest. Powered by both old fossil fuel methods and newer alternate energy source systems, the new eight wonder of the world stood for the future in more ways than one.

Secretly built as the proving ground for Raymond upon his twenty fifth birthday and official membership in the order, Sentinel City holds a number of secret passage ways and rooms built under the city and into many of it's buildings, allowing someone with intimate knowledge of the city to traverse it virtually undetected. Raymond's father charted several of them in detailed documents and blueprints.

To raise the stakes, several other rival criminals were welcomed to the city, each family growing to take part in the challenge to become the greatest thief of their generation. The Kainmans looked to be well placed to take the lead...until they were betrayed. The Midas family raided their home one night, killing Raymond's parents and stealing their resources. Unable to prove their involvement, Raymond was forced to abandon Sentinel and live with his grandmother, his only living biological relative and a retired Hood member. In the absence of the Kainmans the Midas' became the leader of the three other families slide into corruption, turning to more criminal enterprises such as extortion, weapons smuggling and drug dealing. The only child of the Midas legacy, Mandarin Midas, assassinated his father to achieve his inheritance early and take control of the growing empire. He did so through the children of the other three families, forming a tetrad that would control four vital parts of crime, Mandarin at the head. However they were unable to become truly omnipotent as they lacked the majority of knowledge about the Kainman's tunnels. The documents had vanished...

Furthering his training, Raymond became a master criminal, intelligent and deadly, determined to return to Sentinel city and take back his legacy. His travels took him to a monastery in the Tibetan mountains, where he considered finding piece...and hastily escaped as the temple was destroyed by bandits. He later wound up in London, where he earned an architects degree and moved back to Sentinel City. Helping in the design of new buildings to get the lay of the land and try and discover his parents tunnels, he donned a light weight costume with kevlar weave and an armoured helmet with different vision ranges and instant access to information he'd need in his mission. The costumes rather...interesting colour choice was not so much designed for stealth (although it posses technology that can make him invisible to most security systems when wrapped around his body) as to shock, drawing attention away from the power of the Tetrad. He made his debut as a Sentinel thief by stealing a rare diamond from the culture districts and evading police pursuit. He left the diamond in one of the poorer areas under extortion, although it wasn't so much kindness to the residents as showing his distain for the power of wealth; what mattered to him now was symbolism. Using further thefts to prove his formidability and gain a reputation for him self he began making allies with other smaller crime lords and various bent politicians who wanted the Tetrad dethroned, for both honest and illegal reasons. Thus 'Nocturnal' as the media dubbed Raymond, began building a small army for his guerrilla war.

Beginning his search for the documents in earnest he discovered Midas had actually been betrayed by the same man who betrayed his family, an accountant who had once been loyal to the Hoods. Guilt ridden by his part in the murder, the accountant had hidden copies of the documents in a small black ledger. Unfortunately Midas had known this all along, waiting for a real challenge to truly test the Tetrad's power. Nocturnal proved to be that challenge. Midas made his move, killing the accountant’s family similarly to how his father had killed the Kainmans. Only the accountant's daughter Diana survived, escaping with the ledger and living on the streets. Discovered by Nocturnal, she struggled to make a choice who to side with in the coming war for Sentinel city, proving formidable to both Nocturnal and Midas with her intelligence and will to survive. Trying a gentler approach, Nocturnal began to bond with Diana, slowly succeeding as the two began to trust each other. Shocked upon discovering how, and thus why her parents had been killed, a guilt ridden Nocturnal decided to face the Tetrad alone, almost failing when confronted with their full might. Diana, having deduced Raymond's identity, approached the Tetrad in disguise before they delivered the killing blow, bargaining Nocturnal’s life for the ledger...and destroyed it seconds after they agreed. It was all the time Nocturnal needed. The two fled, giving Nocturnal the chance to heal...and also discover Diana had a photographic memory. Later Raymond adopted Diana, the two kindred sprits having forged a strong Father/Daughter like bond in their time together and swore to bring down the murders of their respective families.

Armed with his small scale technology, lock picks, skills, and a gun like weapon capable of firing grappling lines, gas pellets, smoke bombs, tasers bolts, liquid nitrogen, electronic bugs and even a small collection of rubber bullets (all kept in the sash across his chest while his thieving tools are stored in the small pouches at his belt next to his gun holster) and aided by his family's secrets and his adopted daughter, Nocturnal now fights not just for his own legacy, but for Sentinel city as well.
