Memories of brighter days.

The Mahnkopf is a low summit near Falkenhütte ("falcon hut") in the Karwendel mountains in Tyrol, Austria. Last September, when the infection numbers allowed travelling at least within a large part of Europe again, I did a one-week Karwendel crossing. The view from Falkenhütte was breathtaking. I grew up in the flat part of Northern Germany and am not used to looking up and seeing a wall of rock hanging over me.

At night, the sky was clear and the Milky way was visible. I remember having seen the Milky Way twice before, once when I was 16 at a youth camp in the middle of the forest in Sweden and a few years ago in Turkey, but never this bright. Now I look up and the sky is dark and cloudy and all the walls surrounding me are from buildings. I want to see mountains again.
