Chapter Twelve: Kiss Back Home

Shiria waited outside the hospital room. Airi had gone in and helped the doctors with Cheshire and Blackcat’s surgery. It had been almost half a day and they hadn’t come out. The door opened and the doctors left with metal under sheets covered in blood. Airi walked out with a smile.

“Are they okay?” Shiria asked.

“They’re fine.” She waved her in. She looked at the two boys covered in bandages. Blackcat had a broken arm and a few bandages on his face. He smiled as she walked in.

“There’s my angel! How ‘bout a kissin’ make me feel better?” He said with a drunk wave.

“We found out he doesn’t do well with alcohol and anesthesia. He’s a little drunk right now so you can ignore him.” Airi patted Blackcat’s head and tucked him into the bed.

“What about Cheshire?” Shiria asked.

“He’s still resting he’s in a lot of pain and I can’t turn him into a kid or it could kill him.” Airi sighed.

“Oh.” She looked at the bed that Cheshire was in. He was completely covered in bandages. His ears were almost the only visible part of him. His left eye was visible too but it was closed. His arms were bandaged all around his fingers and up to his shoulders.

“The King had bolted the metal to his skin and removing it made it worse.” Airi explained.

“But he’ll be okay?” Shiria asked she kept looking at Cheshire’s poor body.

“Yes he will.” Airi hugged her.

“Airi?” Blackcat shot up he had sweat on his face.

“What is it?” She asked looking at him. His eyes everywhere.

“I’m in a hospital?”

“Yes.”

“Is Cheshire alright?”

“He is.”

“What about Shiria and Hatter?”

“They’re fine too.” She replied. “Now get some rest.”

“Fine.” He laid back into the bed.

“Ugh.” A small groan from Cheshire came. His eye slowly opened. He looked so sleepy with the dark spot under his visible eye.

“Cheshire!” Shiria yelled excited. He winced from the sound she made. Everything burned and wanted to not move. His ears rung badly.

“Sorry Cheshire.” She lowered her voice.

“Okay…” He gave a hoarse whisper. He looked at her.

“How do ya feel Cheshy?” Blackcat asked.

“A little...tired…” He smiled, “How ‘bout…your face?”

“Good. I’ll make sure to knock some more into ya too.” Blackcat grinned back.

“Like to see...you try.”

“Whatever old man.”

“I’m not old.”

“What do you call that back pain of yours?”

“Alright you two need to rest.” Airi hushed the two down.

“I still meant that kiss Shiria.” Blackcat smiled.

“What?”

“Aww. Come on a little peck on the cheek please. It’ll make me feel better.” Blackcat pretended to be upset.

“Um.” Shiria thought for a moment, “Alright but one kiss.” She bent over and placed a quick kiss on his cheek. His ears twitched and he started to pur.

She then turned to the half asleep cheshire whose head kept moving from side to side. “Cheshire do you want a kiss on the cheek too?”

“Huh?” He looked up. His eye was closed.

“I was seeing if you wanted a kiss too. So you could feel better.” Shiria repeated.

“Go… You need to… Find your way...back home” He opened his eyes, “Don’t waist...time on me.” He looked disappointed.

Shiria looked down. “No. I can wait.” She smiled and gave him a kiss on the lips. She started to glow and gasped.

“What’s happening?” Blackcat asked.

“She’s going home.” Airi smiled. In a flash of light she woke up. She was in a bed. She heard a purring noise and saw Proto and Kayato asleep in a chair beside her. They looked uncomfortable and cold.

“Cheshire?” She asked accustomed to the name. Proto woke up with Kayato still asleep in his lap.

“Shiria?” He asked. His eyes drifted. He placed Kayato down gently and walked over to her. He felt her head. He let out a sigh of relief and gave a quick smile. “Your fever is gone.”

“Where am I?” Shiria asked.

“You're in the lab you had pneumonia real bad. You scared me and kayato.” Proto smiled.

“Chesh-” Shiria stopped herself, “Proto?”

“Shiria do you still feel bad? Is there something you need?” Proto asked worried.

“I’m a little hungry.” Shiria reached out to grab his arm. Instead her perception made her touch his hair. “Sorry.”

“It’s alright.” He helped her up in the bed, “What were you trying to call me?”

“Um…” She gulped, “Cheshire.”

“Were you reading Alice in Wonderland when this happened?” He started to laugh a little.

“Are you okay?” Shiria asked a little creeped out.

“I’m fine. I guess I’m just a little thankful that you're alright. You’ve been out for almost a week.” He smiled lightly, “You also kept talking in your sleep.”

“What I say?” Shiria asked embarrassed.

“Some names and a few random things. You actually kept calling out Cheshire a lot lately.” He got up and walked to Kayato and tapped him lightly.

“What is it? Did something happen?” He sounded panicked.

“She’s fine. She’s up and wants something to eat. Do you want something while I’m out?” Proto asked walking to the door.

“I guess a burger and fries.” Kayato replied rushing to Shiria.

“What about you Shiria what do you want?” Proto asked looking at her.

“I guess the same thing.” Shiria smiled.

“Alright. Kayato keep an eye on her while I’m gone.” He walked out the door.

“You scared us!” Kayato yelled once Proto left.

“I’m sorry.”

“You owe us a really good weeks rest! Do you know how my back feels?” Kayato complained. They stared at each other for a moment before bursting into laughter.

“How bad were you and Proto worried?” Shiria asked.

“After he got you to the hospital with Tadashi he ran straight to the skating rink where I was to get me. He almost had a heart attack literally! He was out of breath! I never seen him so panicked like that before except when we were in the battlefield with the viruses.” Kayato explained, “He really does care about us. He kept pacing back and forth almost all day. He barely slept too.”

“Now I feel bad for you two. I never meant to cause this much trouble.” Shiria looked down.

“It’s okay I don’t think he’d act like he has and opened up if you hadn’t have gotten sick.” Kayato hugged Shiria.

“I’m back.” Proto came in with a bag of food.

“That was quick.” Kayato stated.

“There’s a burger place on in the back of the laboratory hall.” Proto replied, “You didn’t tell me what you wanted to drink so I didn’t get any but if you want one there’s a vending machine nearby.” Proto pointed back at the door.

“It’s okay I’m fine.” Shiria smiled.

“Yeah me too!” Kayato looked up.
“Alright.” Proto sat down the bag and handed the food over. They started eating talking about all that happened while she was out. Shiria couldn’t help but laugh and explain her dream. But she didn’t say anything about Blackcat, Airi, or even the kiss. She smiled and shook it away but couldn’t help but blush. She wondered what was to come...

“Fine.” He laid back into the bed.

“Good. I’ll make sure to knock some more into ya too.” Blackcat grinned back.

“Like to see...you try.”

“Whatever old man.”

“I’m not old.”

“What do you call that back pain of yours?”

“Alright you two need to rest.” Airi hushed the two down.

“I still meant that kiss Shiria.” Blackcat smiled.

“What?”
