Description Chapter Fifteen: Brother’s Familiarity

“Come on get up.” Ace nudged Proto. Shiria had woken them up from their nap.

   “Five more minutes…” Proto mumbled.

“I’ll get some ice and pour it down your shirt.” Ace gave another nudge. Proto opened an eye. He didn’t want to get up where it was warm.

“If he needs some sleep we can leave him alone.” Shiria smiled. The boy leaned up and rubbed his eyes. He yawned as his tail flicked behind him. He followed the two downstairs and ate the food they had made.

“I was thinking going to the beach this weekend. They're also having a festival.” Ace looked at the kids.

   “Awesome!” Kayato cheered.

“A festival too?” Shiria asked as if she didn’t believe it.

   “Yeah.” Ace laughed.

“What do you think Proto?” Shiria asked. Proto played with his food and didn’t look up. He looked bored or half asleep at the least.

“Proto she’s asking you a question.” Ace tapped the boy.

“I don’t like the beach.” Proto replied.

“Don’t be a party pooper.” Kayato shoved the boy playfully but ended up shoving him of his chair.

“You can go and leave me alone here.” Proto sighed.

“No you’re coming too.” Ace sayed. Afterwards they packed some clothes and had their suitcases by the door.

“I think Proto’s upstairs packing still.” Shiria looked at Ace.

“It doesn’t take a person too long to pack.” Ace got up and checked. Proto had the heated blanket underneath him with a lighter blanket covering him shoulders. He was fast asleep curled up.

“Lazy.” Kayato whispered. Ace grinned and crawled onto the bed. Kayato followed and readied to pull the sheets away. He threw the sheets away as Ace yelled into his ears splashing some water from a glass he grabbed off the nightstand once he got on the bed.

“Ah!” Proto yelled as he stumbled off the bed he hit his head on the edge of the other night stand.

“Proto!” Shiria cried as the two boys laughed. She ran up to the boy who was glaring at the two.

   “Jerks!” Proto yelled furiously.

“Come on. Get dressed and pack.” Ace said.

   “No.” Proto replied.

“You have to listen to us.” Kayato reminded him. Proto ran to the window and quickly opened it as Ace chased him. He had one leg out as Ace latched on.

“Leave me alone.” Proto turned and bit Ace’s hand. He landed on his feet and ran.

“Damn he’s flexible.” Ace cursed holding his hand.

“What do we do?” Shiria asked.

“We’ll have to split up to find him.” Ace looked out the window, “He knows a lot of places to hide in and if Tadashi finds out there’s no telling what will  happen to Proto.”

They decided Kayato and Shiria would go and look west while Ace looked east. They knew to call each other if they found him. Ace followed the scent trail. Proto was fast for someone out without shoes.

He followed it to the elevator. His scent pushed down on the 45th floor button. Ace couldn’t help but sigh. He walked out onto a large tropical forest. A park that was overgrown from not being cared for. No one had been in this floor for a long time. They were going to rebuild this floor but the oxygen it produced was great for the building.

“I hate them.” Proto cried quietly to himself. He hid in the vast amount of foliage in a tree. He couldn’t believe that it was like this. It had only been a few years since Airi had taken him here. He imagined the park in winter when he wished he could stay longer.

Ace walked along the floor of the jungle. He then heard a sniffle. He looked around and spotted a tail partly hanging down from a branch. He jumped up onto the branch surprising Proto.

“Ah!” Proto cried as he fell backward. Ace caught his leg and lifted him back onto the branch.

“There you go.” Ace sighed relieved.

“Go away! I-I…” Proto fist shook.

“You what? I’m not leaving you out here alone.” Ace grabbed an arm.

“Hate you! You’re just as bad as Tadashi!” Proto shook to free himself. Ace quickly slapped him. He did not want to be called Tadashi or compared to him.

“Don’t you ever say that again.” Ace lowered his voice much like Proto did. Proto was frozen in place staring at him with wide eyes. Ace felt a heavy weight on his chest as he knew what he had done was something Proto never loved. He knew he was all alone to fend for himself and had no one to care, “Proto.”

“G-go away…” Proto teared up. His head was slunk down and his ears down. His tail curled around his body.

“I can’t do that.” Ace hugged the boy. Proto pushed him away, “ Proto.”

“Quit it!” Proto yelled, “I hate humans! And I hate experiments too!”

Ace couldn’t believe it. Proto wasn’t like himself. He wasn’t the one to hate so easily except when it came to Tadashi. But Proto was a little boy right then. He wasn’t the teenage boy. He didn’t like humans and he hated experimenting but he didn’t hate experiments if anything he felt bad for them.

“You’re an experiment too you know.” Ace tried to reason.

“I hate it! I hate my life! I hate it!” Proto cried.

“Everyone hates it sometimes but it doesn’t mean you should give up.” Ace sighed, “You don’t hate Shiria. I know that she didn’t do anything to deserve it.”

“Shiria…” Proto curled up again. He didn’t know what to do. He was picked on and bullied already and all alone in the world. If anything she helped at times.

“Don’t you want to see her again?” Ace asked.

   “Yes.” Proto voice grew weak.

“Come on then. Let’s get you to her.” Ace smiled.

   “I can’t.” Proto cried.

“Yes you can all we have to do is hop down and go home and call her. She’s looking for you right now.” Ace looked at the boy.

   “No I can’t.”

   “Why can’t you?”

“I sprained my foot falling down a cliff.” Proto held the swollen leg.

“We can fix that. Here grab onto my neck.” Ace turned slightly to let him grab on. The boy shakingly held on as he jumped off the limb. Proto held on tightly as they walked home, “If you want you can sit on the beach and not go in the water.”

   “But people.”

“We’ll be sure to sit around an area a little ways away.” Ace looked behind him. Little eyes looked at him. His body stiff.

“What about that festival?” Proto asked.

“Me and Shiria well make sure you’re okay. Nothing will happen to you.” Ace smiled. Proto readjusted himself as his feet started to slip. Once in the elevator Ace sat Proto down.

“What are you doing?” Proto asked.

“Looking at your ankle.” Ace replied. He felt the swollen ankle struggle to move as Proto’s foot tried to move, “Hold still.”

“Why?” Proto asked. Ace snapped the ankle in place. He looked up at the the boy who held his mouth. His eyebrow twitched.

“Sorry it needed it though.” Ace rubbed the boys head.

“Do I get to hit you with your car when I get to drive it?” Proto asked.

“Sure why not.” Ace let it pass. He deserved it and he knew it. The door opened and they headed back to the house. They called Shiria and Kayato. Once they got back they saw Proto covered in dirt and Ace with him, “Hey Shiria can you come here?”

“Yeah what is it?” Shiria asked.

“Proto wondered if you could help fix his leg up.” Ace grinned at the red boy.

   “Did not!” Proto yelled.

“I call bull crap!” Ace stuck his tongue out, “He sprained his ankle running off. All you have to do is wrap it up an ice it.”

“Sure.” Shiria smiled. She made sure to not make the bandages too tight and iced the foot. Proto was blushing the whole time, “I’m glad you’re okay Proto.”

“Thanks.” Proto said in a soft voice. Shiria gave him a hug and she swore he grew a little.

After that Ace packed them into the car letting kayato have the front. Shiria and Proto sat next to each other barely keeping their eyes open. Shiria was leaning on his shoulders and Proto had his head slumped onto the window. They sighed into the hotel and let Shiria get one bed to herself while the boys climbed into the other.

“Mhh.” Proto rubbed an eye as he walked into the bathroom to brush his teeth. Shiria was there in a towel with wet hair.

“Ahh!” They screamed at each other. Proto stumbled over and hit his head. Ace ran over with his boxers on. he had a gun in his hand. Once he noticed the situation he lowered it.

“You two made me think there was an intruder in here.” He picked up the little boy, “Come on Proto next time knock.”

“The door was cracked open.” Proto was red.

“It must’ve not closed all the way.” Shiria hid behind the shower curtain.

“Alright then Proto apologize for starin’ at her.” Ace had the boy in a choke hold.

“I’m sorry!” He gasped quickly. Ace closed the door leaving the girl with privacy.

“I’m out.” She said after a few minutes. Proto was under the covers stiff.

“Well you going in there?” Ace asked. Proto seemed to move quickly before playing dead again.

“It’s okay Proto I forgive you.” Shiria smiled. An eye peeped out to see the girl in a cute little bikini with flowers on it. His face turned red and he hid under the covers again.

“Come on shy boy! Up!” Ace flipped the covers off. Kayato snickered as he watched tv from the couch, “Change into your swim suit! Come on!”

Proto groaned his face red still and went to change. He got into the suit and walked out. After a while of driving they managed to get to beach.

“Come on!” Kayato yelled dragging Proto to the waters edge.

   “NO!” He hissed.

“Proto it can’t hurt you.” Shiria tried to assure him.

“Up you go.” Ace grinned lifting Proto onto his shoulders.

“Wait!” Proto squirmed. He was dunked into the water. He popped up out of the water.

“Proto.” Ace and Kayato tried not to laugh. Proto glared at them he already knew what would happen if he went into the water. His ears where back in annoyance. His hair was matted and frizzed up almost a afro style but still neater than that. He would have a hard time taking care of it once it dried.

“Don’t laugh at him.” Shiria came up besides them. She smiled at the wet boy. His heart started to race and his face turned red. After a while Proto lightened up and got into a splash fight with Kayato. Ace was sun tanning on a floaty. Sploosh!

“Hey.” Ace grinned splashing water back. Shiria got caught in the blast and soon the all of them were in it. They got tired and  ate some food from a picnic.

“Alright we need to go back to the hotel and get ready for the festival tonight.” Ace said as he finished his. Proto looked up as he nibbled away his last bit. A tuft of hair in his eyes. Shiria had started to help brush it which was quite harder than thought. Maybe this is why he really hates water. He does take a shower but he sometimes seems annoyed. Or when it rains he wants to duck under something. She guessed it was true about most cats hate water. He seemed fine about it though. He just doesn’t like it most of the time.

They got to the hotel and got showers again before they got dressed. Proto had fallen asleep on the couch waiting on the others since he was the first to get ready.

“Hey Proto.” Kayato looked down at him.

   “What?” He murmured.

   “Want to play something?”

   “No.”

   “Why not?”

   “I’m not good at games.”

   “We can fix that.”

“What do you want to play” Proto glared.

“Hey boys I’m out.”  Ace looked at them.

“Looks like we’re all ready then.” Shiria smiled. Proto was unsure. They walked down into the festival square. They had already gotten a few looks. Proto wasn’t too happy. Loud noises and smells had gotten him confused. He started to scratch at his arm.

Boom! Pow! Fireworks started to go off.

“Look at that we got here in time!” Kayato looked up. Proto panicked. Red was everywhere he looked. He could hear gunfire going off. He went back to the night. He started to run off.

“Proto! Where are you going?” Shiria yelled.

“Proto! Come back!” Ace started to run after him. The scents from all around rendered him useless, “Shiria you look that way and call if you see him.”

   “Okay.” Shiria yelled.

“Alright I’ll look this way Kayto you look over by the bridge and call if you find him too.” Ace started off.

“Proto!” Shiria called. She ran off by the fountain it was empty. She heard a noise and looked to the second fountain of the three that sat in a triangle. She started to call Ace. Blood was on the ground and he was scratching away, “Proto stop you're hurting yourself.”

   “Blood.” He responded.

“I found him.” Shiria yelled into her phone.

   “Where?”

   “By the fountains.”

   “On my way.”

“Proto stop.” She dropped her phone. He started to scratch worse. She hugged him, “Please stop.”

“I-I.” Proto started. He had looked at her his eyes pleading for help. She didn’t know what to do. She panicked and leaned in close to him she held his face gently.

“Look at me.” Shiria leaned in closer. He started to lean in too. They kissed as Ace and Kayato appeared. A bright flash and Proto was back to normal or so they thought.

“Proto?” Ace looked at the two. Proto looked around.

“What?” He looked around his head hurt. His body was in horrible pain as the growth spurt shot threw him.

“Do you remember what happened?” Ace asked. He knew something was still wrong. His eyes weren’t as they usually were.

“I was training.” He held his head.

“We need to get him to the car.” Ace said. The clothes he wore were a lot smaller and ripped at parts. They noticed he was as short as Ace.

They got him to the lab. Tadashi was furious, “How did this happen?”

“Well I kissed him because he panicked.” Shiria said.

“Why did he panick?” Tadashi growled.

“We went to a festival. He got jumpy and we didn’t carry the case with us.” Ace covered.

“Why don’t you kiss him again and bring him back completely.” Tadashi shoved Shiria towards him. Proto looked at the girl as if she was nothing that interesting.

“Shut up Tadashi I don’t even know her.” He growled. Bam!

“You are not in charge Proto. Learn your place.” Tadashi was obviously angered from his sleep being disrupted.

“Whatever.” He huffed. He held his head. His eyes were full of hate. Bam! Tadashi laid another blow. Proto fell to the ground.

“Shut up!” Tadashi ordered. Proto’s fist were clutched tightly.

“Proto.” Shiria kneeled over. Proto swung at her. Ace caught it and tossed it him aside.

“So it’s that Proto.” Ace growled.

“What Proto?” Kayato asked. Proto stood up glaring at them like an enemy.

“Fifteen year old Proto. He was when he started acting like a jerk.” Ace grabbed an arm that would’ve knocked him out cold if he hadn’t. He turned it around on Proto making him hit the floor with his arm twisted behind his back. Snap! His arm broke. Ace had broken his arm.

“Mhh!” Proto whimpered his mouth refused to open. Everything was burning. He was tired of these people treating him like a slave. He tried to sit up after Ace let go. Tadashi came over and kicked him away from the three.

“Don’t you try and fight with them or me you understand?” Tadashi grabbed his head and yanked it upward. Proto struggled to pull away, “Is that clear Prototype?”

A small nod of defeat and he dropped the boy to the ground. Proto laid there on the ground looking at Tadashi.

   “Tadashi shouldn’t you-” Shiria pointed.

“He can fix it himself. Now Ace take him to the room.” He turned to look at the boy in pain, “Rough him up a bit too if you want or have too. He can’t be around the others like this.”

“Fine.” Ace sighed and grabbed the boy. He struggled a bit. Ace bashed an elbow into his side. Proto coughed some blood up, “Come on.”

He lead him down a hall. And opened a door with a code. He tossed the young Proto into it and looked at the pleading eyes of his brother as the doors closed in front of him. Proto started to curl up before the door reopened. Tadashi had come in. Proto looked at the cattle pronz  in his hands. He knew what was to come. He couldn’t be heard or move at the matter.

“Listen to me well Prototype.” Tadashi loomed over him...
