Description Chapter Fourteen: Shy Kid of Time’s Past

Both Kayato and Shiria were afraid that Proto wouldn’t be able to win this fight. He was winning at first but the table had turned. Proto had a lot more bruises and blood on him than Ace did.

“Get out of the way.” Proto looked at the two.

“But.” They tried to stop them.

“You heard him. Get out of the way. The last thing he wants is for his pride to be hurt from two little kids helping him out.” Ace was a lot more fierce.

“Let’s go.” Kayato pulled Shiria away.

“Proto!” Shiria yelled as Kayato pulled her away. They ran inside and pulled out the home phone.

“Tadashi come here right now! Ace is here and he’s beating Proto up!” Shiria yelled. Kayato watched through the window to see Proto knock Ace to the ground only to be flung back by a shovel to the face allowing Ace time to jump up and toss Proto around.

Tadashi teleported in quickly using his watch and looked out the window. “Those fools!” He rushed to the back door with the kids. but as they did Proto was knocked into the cherry blossom tree from Ace. A spark was lit from both of their watches from busting them up in the fight, “Take your watches off now!” Tadashi ran out.

“What?” Ace looked up but did not refuse and took it off letting it drop to the ground. Proto didn’t respond. His body refused to move.

“Proto! Take your watch off!” Tadashi yelled.  Proto reached for it with a groan but struggled to release it’s latch. The light started to Surround him. Ace rushed over and grabbed his wrist he tried to take it off.

“It’s stuck!” Ace yelled before the light threw him back. With a blinding flash the light faded and a smaller boy was revealed. He was curled up in pain. He was around Kayato and Shiria’s age.

“Proto.” Shiria let out. She ran up to him. The boy groaned his eyes opened slightly before shutting closed again.

“Proto.” Tadashi felt his head. He looked down and noticed Proto’s arm was badly burned from where the watch once was.

“Will he be okay? What happened?” Kayato asked.

“The teleporter part of the watch broke. You saw how the sparks were coming from the watches right?” Tadashi lifted the boy up with a grunt.

“Yes.” Kayato looked at the boy.

“That was a sign that it was overloading. Somehow it must’ve aged Proto since he couldn’t get it off in time.” Tadashi explained.

   “It’s fixable right?” Shiria asked.

“I don’t know yet. But we need to get him to my lab right now it won’t be wise to take him through teleportation right now he may be unstable.” Tadashi handed him over to Ace.

“We can use my car.” Ace led them to the front and placed him in the back of his back sports car.

Ace got in the passenger side and let Tadashi drive. Shiria sat in the middle between Kayato and Proto how moved every now and then. He whined when the car turned or hit a bump.

“I hope he’s okay.” Kayato looked.

“Don’t worry we’re almost there.” Tadashi looked back through the mirror forgetting he was nagging at Ace for the trouble he caused. After a few more minutes Tadashi had the smaller Proto in his lab on a bed being hooked up to wires as he jolted into a seizure. Shiria was completely in a meltdown worried. Ace had to drag both of them back to the house. After an hour or two Tadashi called.

“That’s good. I’ll tell the kids.” Ace looked over at the two children who had bright eyes hoping for good news.

“What is it? Is he alright?” They asked.

“His heart stopped for a few seconds after the seizure but they got him stable. He hasn’t woken up yet though.” Ace replied.

“If you did beat him up then he wouldn’t be like this!” Kayato yelled.

“Hey don’t think I’m not worried about him too.” Ace growled.

“If you do care about him then why’d you hurt him!” Shiria asked.

“I’m afraid that information’s classified. Top secret so I can’t tell you otherwise I would. Sorry.” Ace shrugged his shoulders but did look worried.

“Why is it classified it’s just your feelings?” Kayato growled.

“The reason in the feelings behind it are.” Ace put a finger to his lips.

   “What your gay?” Kayato asked.

“I’m not!” Ace defended himself, “I may have messed with him calling him Cheshy but that’s cause she called him Cheshire. If anything I like brunette girls.”

“So I guess we have to ask Proto then Shiria.” Kayato turned.

“Alright you have to keep it a secret even from Proto and Tadashi if I tell you not that you’d believe me if I told you.” Ace pulled out a picture from his pocket of a blonde woman with two little boys one black haired the other blonde with a man beside them. They were at a beach.

   “That’s Tadashi.” Kayato gasped.

“Yeah. That’s right.” Ace held it out. Shiria didn’t have to put the pieces together she already knew who they all were.

“Who’s that?” Kayato asked pointing to the woman.

“Our mother. Her name was Airi.” Ace looked at Shiria.

“He told you huh? Never thought he’d be able to trust someone enough to even talk about it.” Ace seemed to know.

“You mean you knew about Tadashi being Proto’s father.” Kayato asked.

“Yeah he told me when I saw a picture of her.” Shiria felt guilty, “I didn’t know you were his brother though.”

“I dead in a bus accident being Proto’s older brother I feel bad for giving him the trouble of his own death.” Ace sighed, “A little jealous of him I guess you can say now that we’re older.”

   “Wait you died?” Kayato asked.

“All experiments are either dying or are dead before we are experimented on.” Ace looked at them, “You two were dying in a car wreck. Your parents are dead. I’m sorry about your loss and having to deal with this.”

“So we’re dead but alive?” Kayato asked.

“You were saved from death.” Ace corrected him.

“How did Proto die?” Shiria asked.

“Stress, heartbreak, hard to say his heart ruptured from them because of me really. After I died and my father experimented on me to save me my mom wanted to divorce him. “ Ace looked out the window, “Either way it’s my fault he died or the drunk driver who threw our bus off the road.”

“So what happened to your mom?” Kayato asked.

“We weren’t allowed to be with her except while learning as our teacher. But Proto got a little too curious and I guess his old self still needed her. Apparently he use to sneak out after curfew and go and sleep with her at her house. She slipped a little too much information then he needed to know and she was executed for it. At least that’s what I got from records.” Ace let a small tear roll down before he put a smile on his face and wiped it away.

“Sorry Ace. For yelling at you.” Kayato looked at Shiria.

“So does everyone not know their past when experimented on?” Shiria asked.

“Not all only some but our file says something about the gene split is the cause of it. They’ve been trying to work on it apparently.” Ace smiled, “Proto looked your files up along with his own. He’s gotten to be quite the good little brother I never knew. He gave you two something we can’t have.”

   “What’s that?” Kayato asked.

   “Their name.” Shiria sighed.

“Wait so he gave us our names?” Kayato asked.

“Yep your names were Kayato and Shiria when you were humans. He gave them back to you.” Ace smiled.

“So what’s your names?” Kayato asked.

“If I told you then you’d have to not tell Tadashi or he could kill you two or us.” Ace went from loud to quiet.

“Proto already told me his name. We can keep quiet.” Shiria responded.

“Wait you know his name?” Kayato asked.

“Sorry Kayato I didn’t know it would come up so soon.” Shiria hugged him.

“Well if Ryouya trust you then I do too. My real name’s not Ace but I do prefer it. It’s  really Hansuke.” Ace revealed his secret.

“So you're really Hansuke ‘Ace’ and Proto is really Ryouya?” Kayato was still in shock.

“Ace ‘Hansuke’ I like it better but call me whichever as long as Tadashi isn’t around. Proto on the other hand is too afraid to let anyone call him his name even if Tadashi isn’t around but I can’t blame him. He was traumatized seeing our mother’s death. He was in and out of mental facilities from the records I pulled out. I was really lucky to find this picture and print it out.” Hansuke looked at the picture.

“So Proto’s mentally unstable.” Kayato stated.

“If you saw someone you love die in front of you wouldn’t you be too? He was nine with no memory of her and finding out the day she died isn’t much help is it?” Hansuke questioned him.

“I guess I would be too.” Kayato replied.

“Damn Tadashi just uses us by waving her around saying he can bring her back. We’re both his little slaves but I doubt either of us will really get her back. So I can’t help but feel bad for how Ryouya is right now.” Hansuke crushed his cup of lemonade.  Just then Tadashi called, “Speak of the devil.”

“What is it? Is Proto alright?” Shiria asked as he hung up.

“He’s up. Kayato can you get some clothes of yours?” Hansuke got up. Once in the car they headed off to the lab.

“So by execution you mean?” Kayato asked.

“Shot point blank to the head. That’s why he refuses to use a gun.” Hansuke looked through the rearview mirror.

“Oh.” They sighed. They got through the maze of labs and saw a little boy curled up on a table with frizzed up hair he had a pitiful look on his face. He had an oxygen mask on and his body was wrapped in bandages.

“He won’t recognize you so don’t ask him questions.” Tadashi stood there, “You will take care of him and the children Ace. He also may start to act crazy so take these. If he starts to scratch at himself and say random things repeatedly then dose him in the neck with the syringe and he will go out like a light bulb. Did you bring him some clothes?”

“Yeah.” Kayato held out some clothes of his. The boy didn’t move. Proto just looked at the girl.

“Proto take the clothes.” Tadashi looked at the boy sternly.

“The girl.” A soft voice came from the boy.

“Shiria can you leave the room for a moment please?” Tadashi groaned. Shiria nodded and left within a minute a boy in a yellow basketball shirt that was too big and had one sleeve slipped off one shoulder with another black undershirt and baggy pants and shoes. His hair was in a mess and you could tell he hated being there.

“Proto!” Shiria hugged him. He looked at her funny and didn’t move.

“Shiria he doesn’t remember us.” Kayato reminded her.

“Right sorry Proto.” She blushed. He looked a lot more feminine like Cheshire when he was younger but he was a little older. His eyes were wider and alert than there cold gaze that use to be except for when he was calm, his eyes seemed lighter and relaxed.

“Proto, these are your roommates. You will listen to them and do what you’re told is that understood?” Tadashi glared down upon the boy.

“Yes sir.” Proto started to walk away.

“Proto!” Tadashi yelled, “Listen or else.”

Proto stopped in place. He didn’t bother looking back he just stood there in silence. “It’s alright Tadashi he’s fine.” Ace started to walk out with the kids, “So I guess we need to get you some new clothes that will fit you.”

“Where’s my collar?” Proto asked quickly.

“Oh right here you go the rest of your clothes are back at the house.” Ace handed off the collar. Proto fastened it quickly and it shrunk to fit his neck. Once outside some wind blew by and he shivered.

“It’s eighty-six degrees outside and you're cold?” Kayato looked at the boy.

“Leave me alone.” Proto glared. He didn’t like it. They made it to a clothes store and got him at least two weeks of clothes not knowing how long he’ll be this way. Proto headed straight to his room and locked the door behind him.

   “Proto.” Shiria sighed.

“Let him be, his memories are all mixed up and he has to deal with his past being so close.” Ace looked up at the stairs. After a few hours and no return they couldn’t help but worry. Ace knocked on the door, “Hey open up! I’ll kick this door down if you don’t.”

“What?” Proto cracked the door open. He had a gloomy vibe to him.

“Come on down and eat.” Ace kneeled down by the door to get equal height with his use to be taller, younger brother.

“I’m not hungry.” Proto started to shut the door.

“I call bull crap on that.” Ace kept the door open. He pulled out a can of tuna from his pocket. Proto’s eyes lit up and followed the can, “Oh so you want some huh?”

Proto grunted as he missed his swipe for the can, “Mrrh…”

‘If you want it you have to come down and eat it. Because we made tuna downstairs.” Ace held it high above the reach of the boy. Proto groaned and walked down the stairs. Shiria smiled and held out a plate.

“Thank you.” Proto took it and stuffed himself full. Ace watched him the next day. Kayato and Shiria both had to get immune shots. Proto didn’t because he had gotten it before he left the other day.

Proto had a sweater on and some fleece, plaid pants. He had his head in a book he found on a shelf. He was curled up half covered in a blanket. His tail was flickering every once in a while, “Hey Cheshy want to do something today?” Ace yawned.

“I’m reading.” Proto looked up caught up in the mystery of the book, “And don’t call me that.”

“Come on let’s do something I’m bored.” Ace hopped down next to him.

“Go play a game with someone.” Proto glared. Ace frowned and snatched the book away, “Hey! Give it back!”

“Not until you do something else with me.” Ace held the book high.

“Fine.” Proto groaned, “What do you want me to do?”

“What do you like to do?” Ace asked.

“Staying home and reading.” Proto reached for the book, “I don’t like going outside.”

“Why not?” Ace asked. He managed to cuddle up with the boy. The house was a little cold.

“The humans hate me.” Proto looked down. Ace hated that look of disappointment but he knew how it felt to be treated different like an outcast.

“Yeah some humans are like that.” Ace sighed. He shivered a little, “I think we should check on your heater I think it’s going out.”

“Yeah.” Proto nodded. Ace led them to the heater and propped it open.

“Going to have to get another one.” Ace sayed. They got ready and headed to the car. Proto started to get in the back, “What do you think you’re doing hop on in front no one else is here.”

“Okay.” Proto opened the door. Ace got in the car and looked at the boy click the seatbelt in place.

“Chose a radio station. Get your feet up on the dash. Have fun in the car.” Ace grinned.

“Why are you letting me do that?” Proto asked with a disturbed look.

“I’m trying to get you to loosen up a little. I know you're shy and I know why.” Ace started to drive. He floored it making the hot rod go into a wheelie.

“Ahh!” Proto yelled as Ace laughed. Proto started to laugh after a minute.

“Later I’ll let you drive this car around out in a field somewhere.” Ace turned and smiled.

“What? Really?” Proto  asked. His eyes brightened.

“Yeah I’m serious. We’ll have some fun.” Ace winked.

“Tadashi told me I couldn’t drive.” Proto looked down.

“Hey don’t worry about him he won’t know. It’s our little secret.” Ace patted the boy’s head.

“How do you know why I don’t like humans?” Proto asked.

“One I don’t like Tadashi and I know you don’t either. Two I know about that night. And I feel bad for you. If I was there I would’ve done something to stop it.” Ace looked over. Proto was in a daze, “Proto are you alright? I shouldn’t have said that I’m sorry.”

“I...I’m fine.” His voice lowered. Ace noticed he had started scratching at his skin.

“What’s the matter with your arm?” Ace asked.

“Nothing.” Proto stated. Ace braked hard. Proto nearly hit his head on the dash if it wasn’t for the seat belt.

“Don’t tell me nothing. Proto I know you’re sick inside. You saw someone you cared for die and you can’t handle it and you never will. Not unless you get help.” Ace looked at the boy who was in shock.

“I can’t get help.” Proto lost his voice.

“Yes you can just talk about it with me. I’m here.” Ace gestured.

“I can’t!” Proto yelled. His scratching started to worsen. It started to crawl up his arms. His lower arm started to bleed from where he originally scratched.

“Trust me. Just tell me what you felt when it happened.” Ace grabbed the arm causing the scratches.

“I can’t. You’ll die too.” Proto started to scratch his head with the other arm. Ace reached for that arm and placed his head on Proto’s.

“I won’t die. Just let me be here for you Proto.” Ace lowered his voice.

“I was sad and lonely. I couldn’t do anything right. And it was all my fault!” Proto started to tear up.

“It was not your fault.” Ace hugged the boy. Proto started to wipe the tears away, “Hey cry some more if you need to. It’s better than holding it in.”

“What’s your name?” Proto asked, “You have to have a real name.”

“Ace is my real name.” He lied for the boy’s good.

“Why is it just me?” Proto asked.

   “Ryouya.” Ace sighed.

   “Don’t say it! Don’t you’ll die!” Proto went into a panic, “Blood…”

   “Proto listen to me.”

   “Blood.”

   “There isn’t any blood.”

“Blood! Blood! Blood!” Proto started to struggle to free himself.

“Proto…” Ace sighed. He grabbed the box he had in the backseat. He unlocked it and took out a syringe, “I thought I could help you.”

“Airi!” Proto screamed with tears pouring down now. Ace held the boy in his arms. He quickly sinked the syringe in his neck and injected it into the boy’s body. Proto had gasped as it entered his system before his neck fell and his body slunk down into the seat. Ace sighed wiping some blood away. Proto had scratched him on his cheek in the struggle.

“Little brother… What is it that I can do?” Ace sighed driving the car off onto the empty road.

Proto awoke expecting to be in glass or in a room of red. He was in his room with Ace asleep beside him. Ace had curled up with the boy and wrapped his arms around him. Proto felt the bigger cat breathing on his ears. His head was snug against his head. Proto shifted around to get comfortable knowing the arms around him wouldn’t let him go.

“Hey there little Cheshy.” Ace lifted his head up. He rubbed the boy’s head.

   “What happened?” Proto asked.

“You hit your head on the dash and knocked yourself out.” Ace lied, “I got a new heater so it should start to warm up once it registers.”

“Okay.” Proto huffed noticing fog had formed from it.

“Here.” Ace flipped the covers back onto him. He then looked off the bed.

“What are you doing?” Proto asked.

“I got a heated blanket but it’s already on high.” Ace sighed.

“It’s cold.” Proto shivered curling up under the covers.

“I know.” Ace hugged the boy, “Don’t mind if I stay in the blankets too do you?”

“No.” Proto looked up. He nuzzled into Ace’s chest. The two cat boy’s where curled up much like real cats, “Ace.”

“Yeah.” He looked at the boy who had his eyes and nose sticking out of the blanket.

“Are you lonely too?” Proto asked.
“Naw, I got you, and Shiria, and Kayato to keep me company. But you’re like a little brother to me.” Ace smiled. He had laid down again in the bed...
