Chapter Twenty: Observant Eyes

The world had turned upside down so quick. Yuki sighed. She walked down the stairs and luckily the door to her older brother’s door was unlocked. She opened it. The boy was sat up staring at the moon through the window. He had it opened making the curtains move with the breeze. His eyes glanced back at her then away with disgust.
“Do you really hate me?” Yuki asked.
“What’s a flower to do if it’s a late bloomer?” He turned around, “You get your freedom of life. While I’ve just been used and soon I’m going to be thrown away and be nothing but a dead experiment nothing but a memory.”
“They said you were dying.” Yuki came closer noticing he had blood on his face.
“Not like I’m having a funeral.” Proto continued to stare off into space, “No one will miss an experiment.”
“I want to know more about you.”
“Why?”
“You’re my brother and we don’t even know each other can’t we talk to each other?”
“You’ll only be hurt. Why do you stay?”
“Because you’re a good hurt.” Yuki laughed. He turned around his eyes wide.
“A good hurt?”
“Yeah it’s when you get hurt but it’s a good reason to be hurt.” Yuki explained, “I think the others will also be hurting if you do go away. But in a good way.”
“You say if as if I’ll live.” Proto laughed.
“It’s good to keep a positive mind you know.”
“You act like her.”
“Her?”
“Airi.”
“Mom. It’s been a long time since she was alive.”
“I forgot how she sounds.” Proto started to cough. He looked at his hands. Yuki looked around she wetted a towel from the bathroom and came back. She took his hand and cleaned the mess.
“You said that our dad killed her.”
“He executed her in front of me when I was little.”
“But he’s bringing her back.” Yuki started to wipe his face. Proto leaned over and sniffed her, “What?”
“You’re…” Proto slumped over exhausted. Yuki managed to get out from under him, “I’m sorry.”
“You’re okay?”
“I just had a dizzy spell.” He started to lay down. He looked at her, “What do you want to know.”
“What’s your favorite book?”
“Sherlock Holmes.”
“Color?”
“Grey.”
“Type of music?”
“Soft music, no rap or hard rock.”
“Why does it hurt your ears?”
“Yeah.”
“Movie?”
“I don’t watch too many movies.”
“Okay, what about me what do you want to know about me?” Yuki asked.
“What you’re favorite character from Alice in Wonderland?”
“The Mad Hatter maybe. What’s yours?”
“Cheshire Cat.”
“Figures.”
“What about Kayato? Why him?”
“He was cool. Better skater than any of the guys at the park I’ve seen.”
“So you don’t bear grudges against experiments?”
“No. It’s not cool. They were humans too.”
“Good to know.”
“Anything else?” Yuki asked.
“No.”
“You didn’t ask me anything about my-”
“Purple is your favorite color, you like loud music except rapping. You like action movies and you’re not much a reader. Am I wrong?” Proto looked at her.
“How’d you?”
“I read your eyes.”
“Wow. What about flowers can you figure it out?”
“Lilies.”
“Whoa… What’s yours?”
“Cherry blossoms or roses it doesn't much bother me I like them the same.” Proto shrugged.
“What about the others? What do you know about them?” Yuki asked.
“Shiria likes blue and pink. She loves animals and country music. She likes most movie genres but horror and likes childish teen books. She likes azaleas. Kayato likes action and isn’t hardly a reader except towards mangas. He likes sweet things and loud music of any kind. Doesn’t much care for nature.” Proto looked at the girl.
“You’re really observant.” Yuki replied, “What about dad or Ace?’
“I don’t know anything about Tadashi’s personal life. Ace likes spice and reads action,drama, and mysteries. He is a wild driver so never let him drive you alone. He can garden to save his life and is a wild person.” Proto responded.
“You kinda sound like a police officer reading over someone’s bio when you talk like that.” Yuki laughed.
“You should get to bed. Before you lose sleep.” Proto sighed.
“Alright. Night big brother.”
“Night.” Proto said watching her curiously as she left.

“You say if as if I’ll live.” Proto laughed.
“It’s good to keep a positive mind you know.”
“You act like her.”
“Her?”
“Airi.”
“Mom. It’s been a long time since she was alive.”
