Description Chapter twenty One: A Dying World

Proto woke up to the alarms. The world had gone red. The crimson color he distastested. He got dressed and met eyes with Ace.
“What’s going on?” Shiria asked with a scared Yuki.
“Viruses are attacking the main floor.” Ace replied.
“Main floor?” Kayato asked.
“The lab floor.” Proto stated.
“Dad would be there right now we have to make sure he’s alright.” Yuki panicked.
“Proto it’s not safe to leave the kids here but it’s not safe to bring them.” Ace thought hard.
“There’s a shielding panel in part of the lab if we take them. The viruses we die if they take one step in there.” Proto seemed to gain some strength.
“First we get there and we get them there and we look for Tadashi.” Ace and Proto agreed...
Clack. Clack. Clack. They ran down the dark hallways lit by red lights. Proto tried his hardest not to show his illness. They stopped again as a virus walked down the next hallway. They heard a groan from a room.
“What was that?” Kayato asked.
“Someone is in that room.” Ace said pointing to a beaten down door. He carefully crossed the hall and made it in, “Hello?”
“Ace.” Tadashi held his side. He was cut and left for dead there.
“Tadashi, Come on lets get you out of here.” Ace helped him up.
“We need to get to the center of the lab.” Tadashi said.
“We have to get you and the kids to safety.” Ace replied.
“You need my help to fix this.” Tadashi replied.
“The kids.”
“We can take them with us.” Tadashi responded.
“Alright.” Ace sighed. They heard a scream outside as a  virus had found the kids. Proto smashed it into a wall before being blown back. He gagged as he threw up some blood before he dodged a blow to the face. He gave a quick uppercut and the virus fell down dead.
“Proto.” Shiria kneeled down.
“Don’t worry about me we need to keep moving before more come.” Proto grunted.
“Change in plans we have to get to the center of the lab.” Ace informed them.
“Alright.” Proto stood up.
They continued their rush down the maze of halls and turns. Proto turned at one point and ripped a door down.
“Proto what are you doing?” Ace asked.
“Here get Tadashi in this.” Proto held out a recovery suit. It was in it’s small oval shape. Ace pressed the button on it once he pushed it against Tadashi’s chest.
“Let’s keep moving.” Tadashi started to move around as the suit helped ease the pain.
They made it around another corner they came across more than one virus. Ace jumped in the way with Proto beside him. They slashed the air creating a whip like attack that Proto had done once before that once again ruptured into millions of bits and exploded themselves into the viruses. They continued to attack the remaining viruses that survived.
“Are we getting closer?” Kayato asked as the last one died.
“Almost.” Tadashi kept an out for more.
“Proto.” Ace kneeled over. He started coughing heavily as his breathing started to speed up.
“Proto.” Yuki called, “Dad what’s happening to him.”
“His condition is worsening with all of the energy he is wasting.” Tadashi examined him.
“Come on we need to keep moving.” Ace pulled him up on two feet. Proto stumbled his breathing still harsh. He gave a small nod. They continued to run down many corners until more viruses had appeared, “Stay back Proto I’ll handle it.”
Ace charged at the viruses and took one down instantly. He dodged a blow to the chest and another. He noticed Proto looked anxious he probably was waiting for one to charge at them. One virus attacked quickly and barely missed his head.
“Get down.” Proto called. He made a whip again making it explode into a virus that had cornered Ace.
“I told you to leave it to me.” Ace ran back  to the group. Proto started to stand up but fell.
“Proto leave it to Ace you’re going to kill yourself.” Tadashi knew that he had already hit two more phases of the illness. He only had two more left. Proto nodded still struggling to breathe but didn’t let it stop him. He  could feel every joint and muscle ache and wanting to refuse his every movement. He kept going.
They got to a large door and opened it. A large room with a centerpiece stood there. It however where many stairs down. The room was filled with stairs and bridges. The white light from the center below lit the way as they quickly shut the door and closed it. Proto managed a few flights of stairs before he threw up.
“Come on Proto we can quit now.” Ace tried to coax him. Proto was in pain. He only had this day left to live and he knew it. Even if it was all over he would be dead tomorrow. His body burned and ached too much to sit up or even look up. All he could do was tremble and shake. Bang! Bang! Bang!
“What’s that?” The kids asked.
“The viruses must have found out where this is. We need to hurry before that door gives out.” Tadashi watched the boys as they tried to get Proto moving again. They continued going down and down. The door constantly being crashed against leaving the hollow banging noises to echo through the room.
“I’m getting scared.” Shiria held tightly to Kayato who had Yuki’s hand tightly wrapped around his other free arm.
“Proto do you think you can speed up a little?” Ace whispered softly to his brother. A small nod. Ace started to pick up his pace. He could hear Proto’s breathing start to bother him. They reached the finale staircase. Crash! The door above finally caved in. They only had five or ten minutes before the viruses would be able to run down the staircases and come down.
Tadashi got to work immediately with the console. He pressed a series of keys. Pulling one screen up to another. He swiftly pressed one button. He pressed it again as if he waited on something to happen.
“Damn it!” He cursed.
“What’s wrong?” Ace asked placing Proto on the ground to lean up against the side panel of the console. The kids sat a few feet away watching Tadashi and the nekos. Nervous over the noises of the oncoming viruses making their way down.
“The golem protocole isn’t working.”
“Golem protocole?”
“If we were ever to have this happen we come here and send in a golem. Something non-living to go through the light and it would evaporate. Into a million peices but sent among ever part of the buildings and multiply killing the viruses. All of them and somethings not working.” Tadashi smashed his hand against the keyboard.
“So something has to go through that light?”
“Yes.”
“And non-living?”
“If something organic went through it would die.”
“But it would still work right?”
“Yes.”
“Then what about me. I can go through.” Ace looked up with determined eyes...
