god it has been a while since I've drawn a pony. I was feeling nostalgic recently, despite not being in the fandom anymore, I still wanna draw these ponies and think too much about the lore.

Anyway, here's Daybreaker! Absolutely love that they confirmed that Celestia could become an evil version of herself just like Luna can. My personal take on it (and this isn't canon probably) is that with great magical power comes a potential side effect - a deep corruption bubbling under the surface. Everypony actually has these dark desires or emotions within them, but only with great magic may it take full control. Alicorns have a surplus of magic to pull this corruption to the surface if they aren't careful.

(Additionally my personal headcanon with Sombra is that he was a very magically powerful crystal unicorn, he became evil King Sombra when his corruption overtook him (which he doesn't regret.))

So my interpretation of Daybreaker is that Celestia has a deep dark desire of destruction. She's spent so much of her existence ruling and listening to her subjects endless complaints and remarks. And it's not like she doesn't care for them... she really does everything to keep Equestria in harmony. Even when her sister turned against her, even when Celestia was left to rule all alone... Celestia did her duties, for the ponies of Equestria. Celestia always was the perfect princess and ruler, that's what everypony always expected of her.

But why can't she just forsake it all? Why should she care for anypony? Why can't it all burn? No subjects, no princesses, no kingdom, just Daybreaker.

Princess Luna? Twilight? Why do they even matter? She shouldn't have to pretend to care anymore.

When (or if) Daybreaker is unleashed, she sets to destroying the castle immediately - shattering all her jewelry into broken forms with her immense power. Shards melting onto her from the heat.

Unlike Nightmare Moon who's desire was to command everypony into worshipping her, Daybreaker just wants to watch all her problems burn.
