Please note, this is not my shot. I take no credit for it. I'm only posting this on deviantART so I can provide some feedback to the original photographer.Just a minor retouch of a wonderful image Hougaard Malan produced (asking for some feedback on the B&W conversion). Original is here .
I felt it was just about perfect already but the tones seemed a tiny bit flat/muddy to me. The changes I made were very subtle:
- dodged the rocks in the bottom left & shadow across the water a little
- burned the sky in a little, adding density and also contrast
- added a little extra contrast to the midtones in the sky with a curve & a luminosity mask
- intensified the rushing water with a masked overlay layer at low opacity
Hougaard, I hope you don't mind me playing with your shot (I'll remove it if you do). It was mostly because I find it easier to demonstrate what I mean in image feedback than explain.
