This shot is wow amazing! Just my two cents - as a rule I don't listen to anyone who talks about "the rules". As in "OMG it's a great shot but you didn't follow the rules so blah blah blah." Haha.

Although, kudos on the lighting behind the tree. That really was a very good effect.

You ignored one of the most important rules of photography: never put something dead center. Especially not something vertical. It splits the image in half. Anyone who's taken photography classes knows that.
The picture is beautiful. But there's more to photography than taking a pretty picture. However, you get an A for effort.

The have been plenty of great photographs and artworks alike that have broken the "Rule of Thirds".
Besides that, without the tree being exactly between the sun and the camera lens you would not have the spectacular bloom of sunlight wrapping around the tree. If they had even deviated slightly to the left or right to make the tree off center, then one of the factors that make this photo so wonderful would be non-existent.
