TOOTH & CLAW is a great book full of wonderful characters. This week’s theme is ANY anthropomorphic comic book character.

I'm a huge fan of the Blacksad comic, written by Juan Diaz Canales and drawn by Juanjo Guarnido.
If you've never read the comic, it's mandatory reading (yes, it's that awesome!).
So for this week's Challengers Assemble! theme, I wanted to draw their main character, Blacksad, the cool private investigator.
And then I thought, what would happen if he partnered up with two more of my favorite comic book detectives?
Sam & Max, of course!
Steve Purcell's comic is so hilarious and cool, I just felt like I needed to pay tribute to them, and include them in the mix too.
Side note: Do you know what was the most difficult thing to draw in this piece?
It wasn't the guns.
It was Max's head.
The shape of his head is so unique, I must've sketched and erased it over and over again like 30 times.
Sometimes I drew it too much like a circle, other times too much like an oval.
Getting that shape to look like Max was super difficult - I still don't think I got it right.
It's analogous to Stewie Griffin's noggin - it's such an iconic football-shaped head, everyone knows what it's supposed to look like.
And everyone can tell when the shape looks a bit...off.
So yeah, I was obsessed with trying to draw Max's head correctly.
