This flag is part of a project I came up with to explore what makes a national flag or symbol. I wanted to suggest what might occur if real nations wanted to design new flags from scratch, without using current or historical flags. It’s unlikely most nations would want to change their flags, but it’s fun to speculate on a “what if”?
This new flag is based on the proposed coat of arms for German Samoa . Coats of Arms were designed for all the German colonies, but the outbreak of war and subsequently loss of the colonies meant they were never used.
