Description

Belatedly, I read Marie Kondo's book "The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up." I don't usually read practical self-help books, but I was inspired by Emiko Inagaki's works on simple living, so I decided to read "The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up" as recommended. It was truly wonderful. As a result, I spent this weekend tidying up my home (laughs). I fold my underwear, towels, and socks into neat squares and stand them upright. Above all, I used to be a real "stuff lover," but KonMari's attitude towards belongings shocked me. She talks to her things and expresses gratitude. I had never approached my belongings in this way before, so as I was folding my socks while speaking to them, it brought tears to my eyes. This concept resonates with the Ainu mythical worldview. Believing that things have souls and have come to us willingly, working for us, and serving us. Are we truly respectful to these belongings?

Treating things this way inevitably leads to a reduction in overall possessions. And we don't acquire many new things. After all, there are only a limited number of things one person can truly cherish.

As a result, our kitchen, closet, and bathroom at home have become very tidy. By incorporating Inagaki's teachings as well, even if we were to become poor, I feel we could live with grace and gratitude, maintaining a sense of freshness every day. It's amazing how there's always so much to learn, no matter how old we get!
