Hi there - it's been a long time! This is a piece I completed last year, for inclusion in the White Cloud Worlds anthology. It's a first look at the city in which the bulk of my story will take place; a port city of steep narrow streets with dwellings and commercial buildings stacked up on top of each other.

As some of you may be aware through the news, or through personal contact, here in New Zealand we have recently suffered another severe earthquake. Once again our beautiful city of Christchurch has been brought to its knees - this time by a shallow 6.3M quake on 22 February 2011, beneath the port town of Lyttelton, just 10 km south of Christchurch's city centre. There has been major, major damage to the city, and worse – serious injury and significant loss of life.

In order to recover from this tragedy, Christchurch is going to need the rest of New Zealand's support for a long time to come, and perhaps from further afield as well. If any of you fantastically Deviant Artists out there were able to contribute a little money to this disaster relief effort, that would be truly amazing and incredibly appreciated. My thoughts and condolences go out to the families and friends of those lost in this tragedy, both from New Zealand and abroad.
