out done yourself, didn't expect you to go into inks, next thing you might do comic frameing and layout, or coloring.

You have some beautiful lines, good sir! Your tutorials are so helpful especially since we can actually see how you go about laying down your lines. I actually gave up on pens a while back to go with the brush, but seein' this makes me want to pick em up again!

Again, really great stuff. Also, now I know what those silly french curves are for!

sweet deal man. I know everyone says it but it is much appreciated what you are doing. I dont even get this much knowledge from the art institute...

StevenSanchez In reply to AidanChristopherInk [2008-05-04 18:04:31 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, it's funny 'cause when I was taking art classes here in Florida I had two instructors, one which had worked for Disney, dunno what he did but he claimed it Didn't really learn much from them and I failed 2 artists test, you know learning all the lingo crap.

I just didn't care for it. Yet they thought my sketch book was crazy and one of the instructors wanted me to teach for a day, lol, he wasn't joking either. I turned it down. I was just too shy. My class mates were down for it as well but I still said hell no. lol.

Anyone can draw, they just have to want it and 2 they just have to follow a few simple steps. It all depends how it's broken down in levels. I guess I should talk about that in the next video. I was kind of jumping around in the vid clips

sounds good. learning little things here and there. mainly computer skills which will help because for now I am getting into Graphic design for budwiser. Guess its a step, not in comics or cartoons but at least i still get to draw.

heey... that's not nice..... i've known a friend who inks my crappy pencils and makes 'em look GODLIKE.... inkers are very respectable artists in their own account....

i mean no disrespect, seriously, i WISH i could ink my own pencils as well as most inkers out there. i just find it funny to call them tracers (mostly cause of Chasing Amy. never seen it? see it.)

I love using microns as well, their brush tips give such a smooth finish, I'm addicted to them.

Tabikat In reply to ??? [2008-05-04 09:54:17 +0000 UTC]

Ah, good old microns. I use them as well, they last quite a while if cared for properly and have such a smooth inking to it because of their brush tips, I also like that it comes in a lot of different sizes.

alkoret In reply to Tabikat [2008-05-10 14:19:39 +0000 UTC]

how does one care for a marker properly?

I bought a pack of microns a few months back and they were terrible. And this was right after I opened the pack, not like I left them open for two days...
---
Great video, I'm a slow and wobbly inker, but I'll definitely try to practice this way of doing it

Tabikat In reply to alkoret [2008-05-10 15:43:18 +0000 UTC]

I just keep mine in a container and make sure the lids are on tight, I bought mine in packs and never had a problem with any of the ones I've bought.

alkoret In reply to Tabikat [2008-05-10 22:25:43 +0000 UTC]

I bought another brand and it works really well. I do like that microns come in different sizes, but now I'm hesitant to buy more because the idea that they may or may not work doesn't appeal to me I'll keep them in mind though, when I run out of ink, thanks!

CoffeeStainedStudio In reply to alkoret [2008-10-09 05:35:17 +0000 UTC]

Be sure to cap them, of course, and standing them up point down helps keep the felt moist. If you have one dry out on you, dip the tip in a cap of ammonia (careful!), draw with it until the ink is somewhat flowing, cap it and stand it point down. Should work fine within a few hours after a few test scribbles.

no prob, after all, microns aren't for everyone, there are many types of inks and pens that different artists use, I know a couple of comic artists who use brushes to ink.

Inking scares me. I've been trying for a few weeks now with prisma markers but I find I hate how it turns out. I think it might be because I don't throw down my pencil lines so it's hard to throw down inking.

Anyways, thanks for the awsome tut. It's so much easier to learn when you can see something rather then just reading it.

Sketching more will aid you in confidence build up. Takes time, you're not gonna be a pro over night, so if ya wanna do it, you'll spend the time for it

Man we have totaly diffrent styles. I draw the entire pieace first with no dynamic lines and then go in and flesh them out... bad habit maybe im trying to stop doing that.

And yeah devart is bugged now, my newest deviation dosent show up in my gallery either

StevenSanchez In reply to Muady [2008-05-04 01:07:37 +0000 UTC]

There's no real said method of inking, you can lineart the whole image if you feel comfortable doing that then adding line weights, that's totally fine as well

Muady In reply to StevenSanchez [2008-05-04 10:27:13 +0000 UTC]

I call it putting down skinnies and them turning them into faties^^

You forgot one important thing about inking... bleed proof paper. So very very important if you want to do anything with detail

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

StevenSanchez In reply to Muady [2008-05-04 10:39:29 +0000 UTC]

Um, Bleed Proof paper, understand this, once you ink, you mainly can ink on ANYTHING and WITH ANYTHING. I've seen certain people ink on Napkins and make it look amazing! It's all about how you handle the pen. I guess it's a Matrix thang ^^
