Zatanna Zatara is the daughter of famed magician Giovanni “John” Zatara and Sindella, a member of the mystical Homo Magi race. Zatanna is a direct descendant of the artist and magician Leonardo da Vinci, and is related to Nostradamus; Alessandro Cagliostro; the noted alchemists Nicholas Flamel and Evan Fulcanelli; and Lord Arion of Atlantis. Her cousin, Zachary Zatara, is also a magician.As a homo magi, Zatanna was born with the affinity to manipulate magic. Her unique genetic structure allows her to use the magic she was born with as well as learned magic. As a tribute to her father, and as a focus for her spells, she casts spells by speaking backwards. For example, saying "pots" would cause the target of the spell to stop in their tracks. Though in actuality she doesn't need to speak at all to cast spells she does so mostly out of psychological habit.
She has been called the most powerful member of the Justice League, and is often works alongside the most powerful magic-users on Earth, including Doctor Fate, Madame Xanadu, and Captain Marvel.

you have really outdone yourself with this one my friend, i love everything, the background which lends itself to a kinda art nuveau style of french theater posters of old, the stark contrast between the slightly doe eyed yet in control look in her eyes-the true showman, and the monstrosity crawling out of her hat, and i love the stars too!!!

Really did turn out well, the only single thing I'd look at in this issue is, she looks just a tad cross-eyed. Not horribly so, the face is great and the overall composition one of your best I think.

I'm thinking that most guys are the weakest at girls. I was pretty weak at it myself at one time. That's because when we start out (especially the comic artists) we will draw our favorite characters. I mostly drew Wolverine, Captain America and the various X-Men(male) myself. When I realized my weakness I started picking up fashion and beauty mags. hair mags etc. I remember I used to get pretty embarrassed buying those things but it helped me a lot. A LOT! I'm not yet where I want to be artistically as yet by far but realistic research goes a looong way, buddy.

haha i used to get some of those mags to help me out. i haven't created enough female characters to practice and i haven't practiced in forever. thanks for the help man, i'll have to practice them more. i did feel a lot more comfortable with the faces at least after drawing seifer's mother a bunch of times from the prologue.

Overall it's brilliantly done-Love your shading work!! I can actually "see" where the hilights would go- that's my problem area.

I'm glad you noticed that! There's a ton of Zatanna devs on DA and nearly everyone goes the cute bunny routine. I wanted to go a different route!
Her cousin was introduced during the "One Year Later" period after "Infinite Crisis" as one of the many members of the revolving Teen Titans lineup. Currently he doesn't much engage in super heroics but is a stage magician.

Oh most def, I tend to notice the 'little details' sometimes they can make or break a piece- you know? And after Infinite Crisis, I stopped buying comics for a while. That explains that then. So thank you!!! I will see if I can find someone with a copy to borrow.

It's nice work. I like how you're keeping the facial details low. You could in this instance made the forehead shorter to bring out the foreshortening better, and pay a little more attention to the eye placement. Overall the shading work is great! And I like the little stars coming out the wand.
