History

chapter one.

in riverclan, it’s not uncommon to see litters of kits named after fish, named after the plants they find by the river’s edge. what’s more uncommon is the litter named after creatures that the two riverclan parents had only ever heard the tales of – and thus, there was a litter of four kittens born: bearkit, lionkit, tigerkit, and leopardkit. their parents couldn’t have been more proud – frogeyes and hailpad had been mates for what felt like forever when their kits were finally born.

for the most part, the kits lived a rather uneventful kithood – they ate, they grew, they slept, and they simply enjoyed their lives. their father gave them lessons early on, teaching them the proper hunting stances and the best ways to sneak up on their mother. bearkit was the largest of the four from an early age, both bulkier and far fluffier than his siblings, yet undeniably his parents’ kit with his markings that practically mirrored his father’s. he was his father’s biggest fan – and you’d regret it if you ever spoke badly of his father in front of him.

chapter two.

as an apprentice, bearpaw excelled. of course he did, with the strong teachings and foundations that his parents had instilled in him. his mentor was a sweet older warrior named oakflurry, a cat not many moons away from retirement themselves. oakflurry never minced words, despite being a very sweet cat – and they were very firm when it came to the corrections and expectations they had for bearpaw’s skills. in the end, it meant that bearpaw was an incredibly well trained apprentice, who of course passed his warrior assessment with flying colors, earning his name bearstone for his steadfast and reliable nature, like a stone planted firmly in the river they so loved.

chapter three.

bearstone was easily one of the best warriors riverclan had ever had.

well. maybe he was tooting his own horn, when it came to that – but really, he was a fantastic warrior. well, no one had any complaints yet – and he was bringing in piles of prey for the clan, and even trained his own apprentice or two in his time. as a warrior, he was headfast and dedicated, willing to throw absolutely every part of himself into his duties.

it wasn’t until he hit his forties that he truly showed his colors – a bad border skirmish where the riverclan cats reigned supreme due to his quick thinking and his ultimately even quicker paws. it was no surprise when he was named deputy when the previous deputy died from a snake bite a few moons later – though of course he pretended it was, in his eyes. it felt like it was him and his mate against the world – until she died shortly after the ceremony from greencough.

chapter four.

bearstone’s reign as deputy went about the same as his time as a warrior: constantly outshining his expectations, helping everycat possible, doing his best to take care of his clan. it was while he was a deputy that he took his second mate, a sweet she-cat he fell head over heels for. he never thought he would find love again after losing his first mate, but she continued to surprise him by letting him open his heart again to love.

he also received the wound from a fox that would eventually cause him to retire, a gash so deep into his muscle that it felt like, for a while, that his front leg would never be the same. it was with a heavy heart that he stepped down to retire to the elder’s den, though he was already nearly seventy-five moons old, and his bones just weren’t set up for the life, anymore.

chapter five.

perhaps he was always meant to be an elder, with the way he constantly made jokes with the younger cats, and the millions of stories he had to share with the kits and apprentices. his mate whom he loved so dearly passed before him, a freak accident taking her life when they were least expecting it. she hadn’t even been in the elder’s den for a year when it happened.

bearstone was devastated. he buried himself in his family, taking solace in watching them grow and have kits of his own. he became a grandfather, and a proud one at that, and continued to have his paw in the prey-pile so to speak when it came to advising the leader. he was respected amongst his clan – and then the droughts began. he never thought he’d see the day the rivers dried up, his beautiful rivers he’d known his whole life. and yet there they laid, dry as the bones of a mouse laid out in the sun.

he wanted to help. he wanted to throw himself into helping the clan – and tragedy struck when both the current leader, pikestar, and the previous deputy fell ill. when both cats died within mere nights of each other, the clan was left without any form of leadership. the medicine cat at the time turned to bearstone – the only one left who had led the clan before. they had had a dream, they said, of a hulking shape leading riverclan back to its former glory.

of course he took the role. what kind of cat would he be if he didn’t?

chapter six.

though the moonpool was starting to lose its former glory, he was able to get his nine lives.

he saw his parents, his mates. his old mentor, and even pikestar at the ceremony. it was a joy to see his friends again, everyone he thought he’d never see until he crossed into starclan’s starry fields.

choosing to bring his clan on the journey to the new territory was difficult, but the right path. he knew it was the way to bring them where they needed to be. it was the right thing to do for his friends, his clanmates, his kits, his grandkits.

the new territories were gorgeous. the most beautiful thing he’d ever laid eyes upon – except, maybe, the birth of his kits.

it was their new home. and it was time to enjoy it.

About

Personality:

+ caring ,  protective , supportive

bearstar is a dad at heart, a cat who has sired two litters and spent moons raising kits and training apprentices. he's incredibly caring towards every single member of his clan, trying his best to make sure everyone feels like this is their family, and that they're being looked out for. he has a protective streak as well, going so far as to jokingly refer to every cat in the clan as his kits in spirit, making sure that nothing would ever befall them. should his warriors (or his kits) ever have a need to come to him for help, he prides himself in being supportive of them, so long as they have a plan in place that seems sound in his mind.

> paternal , bad humor , mellow

in addition to being a literal father, bearstar tends to take on a rather paternal role within the clan. while this benefits those who need the extra guidance, he can take it a bit too far sometimes, not that he ever really realizes it. he's got incredibly bad humor, making jokes that are funny but in the worst of ways, stupid jokes that you almost can't help but laugh at. he's also incredibly mellow, and it's a bit hard to work him up, something that works in his favor mostly but sometimes means he doesn't get as worked up when it's necessary. the main exception, of course, being those who mess with his clanmates, who get the full range of his fury.

-  traditional , overbearing , hard-headed

when it comes to the warrior code, while bearstar does believe that the leader's word will end up being law one way or another, he follows the code to a t, earning himself the title of one of the more traditional leaders in riverclan history, especially given its sordid past with half-clan cats and various other scandals. he prides himself in this, though it does make him a bit hard-headed and stubborn when it comes to accepting those that are different from him. he believes in the code, and he believes the code is what his ancestors want him to support, and thus it's the only way to be. it's hard to change his mind when he's set his ways. while his paternal role can be extremely helpful for some cats, in other situations it's overbearing -- he thinks he's right, and he'll go out of his way to prove he knows what's best for whomever he's helping.

Likes: fish of all varieties, soaking in the shallows, letting himself float, stretching out on warm river rocks.

Dislikes: mouse, rabbit, getting burrs stuck in his pelt, getting reeds stuck between his toes, cold leaf-bare nights.

Roleplay

IT’S ALWAYS BEEN EASY for Riku to lose himself in his thoughts, something that happens frequently when Sora takes him on this tour de’worlds as it were – showing him all the places he went while he was learning how to be strong again.

There’s just something about Corona. It’s not the last world on their tour, not even close, but there’s something about the way the people live here, the way they allow such joy into their lives every day that’s almost– well. It’s enticing, in a way, to Riku. The idea of letting himself be relaxed enough to just… enjoy everything going on around him.

Sora, as usual, jolts him out of his thoughts – his brain registers the outstretched hand too slowly for him to do much before his own hand is grasped and he’s being yanked up to his full height by the other male. “What–” And it’s all he really gets to say before he’s being tugged towards the center of the square.

It’s hard not to give into the music. It’s infectious, it feels like it’s down to his core and admittedly, doing something like this with Sora? That’s infectious, too. It’s dazing in a way that nothing else he’s experienced has been, all the bodies moving around him, so he just focuses on his hand in Sora’s, puts a hand on his waist, and dances with him.

And maybe, with this – it can be easy to lose himself in this, too. The feeling of Sora’s hand in his, his body heat near him and their bodies moving in time to the music. He can lose himself here. This time, he thinks, he’d certainly rather lose himself in the good feelings of enjoying time with the one he cares most about.
