This QUESTION MARK butterfly (Polygonia interrogationis) was nectaring on goldenrod (Euthamia sp.) at Southern Head Beach on the southern tip of Grand Manan Island in the Bay of Fundy, New Brunswick, Canada on August 29, 2010. This species is scarce and migratory in New Brunswick and is most commonly seen when moving south at migration spots such as Grand Manan in late summer.The adult butterfly has a wingspan of 5–7.5 cm (2–3 in). Its flight period is from May to September. A silver mark on the underside of the hindwing is broken into two parts, a curved line and a dot, creating a ?-shaped mark that gives the species its common name.
