This bison jawbone recently joined my dead collection and I knew I needed to use it in some self-portraits. I was really inspired by Sylvia Ji's "Shapeshifter" series last year, but never got around to creating my own photographic rendition of "Red Caribou". So when brainstorming makeup ideas, I was immediately drawn back to the gorgeous red tribal face paintings featured in her works.
After I had coated my face in lipstick and shed a few tears putting these contact lenses in, I realized I left my Cyber Syncs in my boyfriend's car and wouldn't be able to use my lights. Rather than postpone this idea after all the hardwork I already invested, I decided to manipulate all natural light like the good ol' days! And actually, I'm glad I didn't use strobes. I couldn't be happier with the way these came out!

Congrats on the exposure, found this through the Popular Deviations postings. I remember chatting with you a few times a couple of years ago, mostly over myspace. You deserve the promotion, good job.
This is such a striking shot. The pose, the props, the facial markings and your eyes all combine to form such a visually stimulating piece. Something about the way your hand is presented really appeals to me as well, so all in all, fantastic work.

The natural light does work well and the composition is great. The redlipstick (?) is a nice color but could not have been easy to work with. It is well applied looks great though!

composition has this great soft look to it, with dimness in all the right places to get a great dramatic affect. I especially like the way the jaw-bone frames the face, it all has this awesome predatory vibe. Great work on the framing and mood.

Because it should be!
Stunning work, the eyes really do make the picture pop. And the contrast against the make up really just brings it together.
The props are awesome and it just seriously weaves this all together.
So what i'm basically trying to say is....nice job!
