Description
culmination of boredom, silliness and homesickness. I like this, makes me feel soothed and giggle a bit. -lion out of water- o.O I know that I originally gave the Merlion a seahorse-fin, but I took that away. felt like I should stay true to the original design. :BI want to design other Merlions based on different fishes now, heehee. And I still want to go home.

I don't remember the real merlion statue well, but shouldn't it have some kind of fins? otherwise it might as well be sinking.. (not a criticism! just a suggestion! I love the idea! its so cute!)

well I don't know. I think it matters alot, gives them the ability to steer and stuff. Its kind of like when they cut the fins off of sharks for shark fin soup and whatnot, they'll throw the poor things back in the water and they just sink. The Merlion would have to be an eel type thing to really pull that off and I'm pretty sure eels have fins too.

hey, all I did was stay true to what it looks like.
seriously, the more I think about it, the more perfect the merlion is for Singapore. It's made up of completely disparate elements (fish - sea trade, orang laut; lion - self-explanatory), it's a tourist attraction which is our primary source of income, and finally, by the laws of the world, it shouldn't exist. yet it does. :3

I doubt that Singapore's tourism is based off the Merlion. Its a bloody cool city without ever seeing the statue.

No, what I meant was that the Merlion is basically meant to be a tourist trap. Even if it doesn't count for much in the long run (which is definitely doesn't) much of our income is still based on tourism alone, not necessarily tourism that came from the Merlion. (that can't be much at all, honestly, I can't think of anyone who'd want to visit just to see it xD)

Their expressions completely make this picture ten times better! ((not to say it's not already amazing)) Great job on the lionfish's anatomy and markings as well as making them actually look like their in water and not floating aimlessly in open space. It's a simple background but the angles of the merlion make it work. I also really like how you didn't make the bubbles perfect circles but rather oblique shapes. I didn't know that you could do marine work AND dogs!

anyhow. thanks again for the lovely comment.. I made them slightly transparent so that the turquoise blue of the background sort of shows through them a bit, and gives them a turquoisey tint ^^ The bubbles being funny shapes was just something I noticed, heh. And I did use a ref for the lionfish, so yeah. not exactly my domain but I tried!

OMG! When I saw this I giggled so much!!! My dad used to have to go to Singapore all the time, and whenever he came home he brought my little sister and I Merlion plushies!!! And no one ever knew what they were!

The merlion looks like a hybrid from a koi fish pond.
I'm glad you didn't put and arms or fins on the merlion. It would have only junked it up. Looks great.
