That night, the engines were at the shed when Gordon and Maud returned, and with them was the Vicar of Wellsworth in his robes and Sir Topham Hatt in his finest suit and hat."This evening we are here to renew the wedding vows of Gordon and Maud." The vicar announced. "Gordon do you still take Maud to be your wife, to have and to hold from this day forward, for better or for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish; from this day forward until death do you part?"
"I still do." Gordon replied. "And after all this time, Maud, my wonderful princess, I'm still holding on." The engines and crews chuckled, some through tears of happiness.
"Maud do still you take Gordon to be your husband, to have and to hold from this day forward, for better or for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish; from this day forward until death do you part?"
"Forever and always." Maud replied. "Thank you so much for standing up for me and believing in our future together!" From the same eyes which once bled tears of rage and sadness came a waterfall of tears of joy. She could barely contain her excitement to be sharing this moment with her husband. "The most wonderful thing to ever happen to me was meeting you. I know that I can always count on you to be there for me when I need you most. I'm so blessed to be married to you!" The Vicar wiped his eyes with his robe sleeve after Maud's speech, and finally declared,
"Then by the power vested in me, I pronounce you still husband and wife!" And the engines blasted their whistles and horns to celebrate the renewal of Gordon and Maud's wedding vows. What had started as the most difficult time in their marriage ended with the ultimate triumph of their love for one another. There was truly no better way for them to celebrate Valentine's Day...
