Description Edit (02/25/11): First bubble is supposed to be "Pyros" not "Pyro's". OTL
Edit (06/17/11): Spelling error: "Separate" not "seperate." D :

I worked on this before my Vocaloid one, and I will be selling this as a print at the con too. 8 D Just a thank-you to my watchers; thanks for suffering through all my animu. OTL

I wish I could make a Pyro LP, but you get a comic instead. This was inspired by the fact that this indeed happened to me when I was playing Pyro. No matter how good you are at a class, some people are still jerks. (fyi, I still love playing Spy, but I'm a better Pyro)

I talk about competitive a lot because I have experience playing competitive TF2 both in 6v6s and 9v9s. The only ones that allow Snipers all the time are 9v9s which are also called Highlanders. 6v6 is quite different and it takes a lot more dedication and can be stressful for new players. It's not my place to say you can join, it's better to think of it as... Anyone can join. You just need to advertise yourself to teams that are looking for the class(es) you play.

The team that decide to have you on their Highlander team are the ones who will have you try out and then they will judge whether you work with their team chemistry or not.

I recommend Community Fortress for anyone starting out. Go into their forums, follow their rules and advertise yourself for Highlander Sniper (make sure it's not 6s, people will laugh at you or tell you it's the wrong place for Snipers). If you have anymore questions, feel free to ask.

well setting Snipers on fire works because it deals continuous damage and for every bit of damage their aim bounces up and down so it works well

That is true. However, in a 6v6 competitive setting, it would be best if your team gave you the distraction you need to not get shot at (or to keep your Medic safe). In pubs, most Pyros should be be doing their job (spy-checking and helping their teammates with uber or sentry) instead of just standing at one point constantly just shooting their flare guns at Snipers (seeing it all the time really just makes me facepalm).

drake54 In reply to syntic [2012-07-04 10:13:52 +0000 UTC]

yes that is true, I play Sniper, Pyro, soldier and Engie, from my experience I can say I can easilly avoid a Pyro's flare, these types of Pyros that do nothing but try to countersnipe me with a flare gun are just target practice for me once I know what they're trying to do.

leave the countersniping to your team's snipers, what these Pyros are doing wrong is they are just trying to kill the Sniper, with a Flaregun, it does not have the capacity to kill a sniper, what I recommend Pyros do is that when they have an advancing front and a Sniper is picking off the advancing front with his Sniper rifle, what you do is use the Flare gun only to distract the Sniper, not kill him but just to distract him long enough for your advancing front to get to cover that's what I recommend, this can easilly be done and then you can resume your regular duties

syntic In reply to NaPossible [2012-05-09 06:22:43 +0000 UTC]

W is the keyboard key to move forward. You turn using your mouse, and all you have to do is hold down mouse1, which is left click.

Basically, it's a long running joke for Pyro players since it usually requires no skill to get the kills (in a pub).

Any more tips about deflecting rockets and grenades? I suck at that...

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

syntic In reply to LibraryPhantom [2012-02-26 00:25:37 +0000 UTC]

Timing.
It all comes down to practice and muscle memory, but usually, when you see a soldier firing a rocket, you gauge the distance depending on how far away you are. For instance, if you're very close to them, get ready to right click about... 0.5-1 seconds when you see them (i.e., when you round the corner). If they are far away, just wait till the rocket is shot, and when the rocket is close enough to the airblast distance, compression blast it.

Grenades are a bit more tricky, since they travel in an arc, but it's generally the same idea as rockets, but you have to aim up a bit more so it travels back in an arc towards the enemy.

Are you going to make one about some of the non-primary weapons, like the flare gun?
That'd be fun.

Of course, most pyros ignore the first 5 pannels and just put on the backburner and go w+m1

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

syntic In reply to holycrapabear [2011-09-03 10:33:45 +0000 UTC]

Backburner now has the airblast capability, there is no excuse that they cannot put out a teammate, unless they're low on ammo.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

holycrapabear In reply to syntic [2011-09-06 02:46:20 +0000 UTC]

If you asked a bunch of people who have pyro as their main class, I bet at least 60% of them would not know that you can airblast your teammates, and even less that you would find that actually use it.

I was playing on turbine once, and I saw my medic teammate burn to death when there were 4 FUCKING PYROS all just standing there doing nothing to help him whatsoever, causing them to all get killed because they were too dumb to airblast a medic.

I gotta be honest though, whenever I see someone that airblasts their ignited teammates, I instantly gain a ton of respect for them, just because good pyros like that are so rare.

The degreaser is the best flamethrower anyways.

I love and hate pyros at the same time. They're extreme powerfull on close quaters battle and hard to take down unless in open field or far away without taking good amount of damage (and burn damage netherless).
But the main reason why I hate pyros is not because I mostly use spy (I can still avoid them pretty well), but because.... IT SEEMS NOBODY KNOWS HOW TO USE IT!!! DX< Seriously, I have never seen any pyro player I have met using mouse 2 button to extinguish fire from their team mates or deflecting up coming ammunition or seperating enemies. They mostly randomly ran around trying to hit anybody, often getting themselfs killed. And the Spy checking!! Jesus I get that they want to make sure i'm not enemy spy, but THEY DONT STOP FIRING AT ME EVEN THOUGHT IT'S ALREADY CLEAR IM ON THE SAME TEAM!!! DX<
.... sorry, my bad.... I just mostly see newbie pyros and hardly pros who know how to use pyro. (i'm not bes myself, thought).

syntic In reply to Nilesiwa [2011-08-28 23:09:02 +0000 UTC]

It's probably because there are a lot of free to play players now. If I notice that a Pyro won't put out their teammates, I'll type it in chat and ask them to do so because they probably didn't know. There aren't a lot of players that know it's alright to step away from a fight when you can't win since survival should be the highest priority, but they'll pick it up in time (so you'll see less suicidal Pyros). I assure you, the Pyro players that will put you out are usually on non-Valve servers (i.e., Lotus, Source, etc). Also, if you set an example of blowing people away or extinguishing your team from fire, other players will see and follow suit.

Nilesiwa In reply to syntic [2011-08-29 05:22:58 +0000 UTC]

Yeah. I agree. I usually do those things myself as well, as long as am able to do so. (seperating enemies is a bit hard unless you have suprise element). I have typed the hints myself, some do listen, but some of newbies just go; "lol, Dont tell meh wut to do, 1'm fr1gg1n pyro champ, trolololo"
.... but yeah, those are just my expriements with these newcomers. I agree we should show some example so they'll learn some trick of the game.

You wouldn't happen to have done one for Spy then, would you? I think a heads-up on the fact that you have to be completely uncloaked to sap or backstab would be nice for newbies. Took me forever to figure it out for myself - I was so pissed! XD
